So far I am loving this book. The new characters are great, the story interesting and characterization of existing characters spot on. Not to mention that it's very well written.

As I said in the review thread, I thought this book was fantastic. If you like it, I also recommend you pick up his novel Nobody's Son.

We always create a sticky thread in advance of a book's publication.

I'm on page 203..wow, this book is great. Dooku really becomes a character in this book. We see he's terrified of Sidious, desperate to please. it's saddening really..a great former Jedi Master so utterly humbled.

    SPOILERS!!

Qui-Gon speaks from beyond the grave!! I swear, it was great hearing from him again!

'Cause you can't turn an existing thread into a sticky thread, you gotta make a new one.

The book does make me feel sad for Dooku, and make me love Yoda all the more; he is truly compassionate, if he can love Dooku when even QGJ could not.

And the humor is AWESOME. Funniest Star Wars book since Starfighters of Adumar, which it easily rivals.

Who does Qui-gon talk to? What does he say? What is said about it?

I heard in the other thread that Yoda has Dooku tell him what the darkside can give him, and how Yoda refuses it all with an explanation. What exactly is offered, and what does Yoda say when he turns each of them down? Thanks!

Qui-Gon talks to Yoda. He thinks he's lying.

And sorry, but I for one will not spoil the ultimate confrontation for you. Read the book to find out what's said between Dooku and Yoda. :)

The cool thing is that Dooku has a bit of a vision or idea as to what a really bad, dark-side wielding Yoda might be like and how that would completely annihilate Sidious. All he really offers him is the same old--"you could have all the power and control in the universe". Yoda prefers life and peace. And Sidious realizes what an idiot he is to egg Yoda on when he has a an idea of what Yoda wouyld be like wielding that power. I think I could really be interested in a book that maybe focused on the younger years of Yoda when he faced the temptations he said he did. After reading this book and the excellent characterizations of Yoda, I think it would be really great. I did enjoy seeing him through the eyes of others who were not so enamored of him...and the description of the really awful things he likes to eat.

I also found the Obi-Wan and Anakin scenes to be pretty good as well and to some degree they laid some hints down as to the future that were pretty neat. Nothing too terribly obvious, but just little things like Obi-Wan covering for Anakin and then saying..."I feel it to my nerves that you won't thank me for that some day." (Paraphrased)

The Whie and Scout characters I found to be engaging and really interesting. And Qui-Gon coming back to give some insight about Dooku to Yoda was great. An excellent book and well worth the money spent.

I wanted to ask those that read the book, does Yoda and Dooku cross sabers again? And is their any type of force power display/ability? Does it have any lightsaber colors in them-like for example bright blue blade or brillant green lightsaber and stuff like that? Let me know with what you got.

Allow me to ask my usual questions ;) :

1)Are there any battles in it(fleet or ground)?

    and

    2)Is Darth Sidious in it?

Does Yoda at least ASK Qui-gon how the heck he can be talking to him, since he's dead? Is Yoda surprised at all? Is he going to tell anyone that Qui-gon knew how to cheat death, and has been having conversations with the dead guy?

EDIT: Is it made to seem that ONLY Yoda knows of this and its a secret to most other Jedi?
Does Yoda know how he did it, or ask, or does QG explain it? I'm sorry for all the questions, this books sounds will interesting, I'm gonna have to buy it Tuesday!

It's about time that we have a thread for this. Cannot wait to read it, although I don't think that any of the stores around here have it yet. Since I'm on vacation all week, I'll have plenty of time to get it.

    >TC said this in the earlier thread: " One small gripe--they fixed a continuity problem that was already fixed, with a different explanation. Arg." <

It'll be an obscure reference for most people (but not you, I know Quest. ;) ) In the Gameboy New Droid Army game, you (as Anakin) kill Count Dooku. It's part of the story. Big, big problem, and no explanation was given for some time. As far as the game designer people knew, Dooku was dead--they'd been told to kill him.

A lot of us assumed that it was a Force doppelganger, a power seen in Dark Empire. It made sense. Recently, Fact Files confirmed it.

Only now, in the Yoda novel, Dooku says it's a clone. He even muses on Sidious's reaction to Anakin killing the clone. Oh well. It would have been a brilliant fix, if there hadn't already been one in place. So, if you count the Vader vs. Maul Tales story, Vader has now defeated clones of every single Sith from Sidious to himself. :p

A great part of the novel is the diversion at Phindar--a world from Jedi Apprentice. "If you would like your droids seized and searched, by all means allow them to wander free." :D

One of the best parts of this book has got to be Yoda's characterization. Stewart has taken every aspect we've ever seen of Yoda's personality, and made Yoda work as a completely three dimensional character in a novel. It's absolutely brilliant.

Kudos also to Stewart for expanding Vjun, a planet we've seen several times before, but without any real background information. Great stuff.

A gripe about Wayland--it's mentioned prominently several times. It was supposed to be a world with no name, that only Palpatine knows about. Apparently, the Jedi knew about it too. This is the problem with having authors pick names of aliens and planets out of sourcebooks, and editors who don't understand the historical contexts of those names.

Guys, don't remember to rate the book in the Lit Review thread one you've read it. :)

EDIT: And by "don't remember" I mean either "remember" or "don't forget"!
