After skimming through the excellent article on International House of Mojo I decided that we need a thread here to discuss how cool the old Lucasarts games when their quality was the best in the video game history. In case you don't know, Lucasarts made 15 great adventure games throughout the times.
Labyrinth, Maniac Mansion Zak McKracken, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Loom, The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max Hit the Road, Full Throttle , The Dig, Curse of Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, and last and least The Escape of Monkey Island.
Now discuss how cool each game was!

I loved Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis. Played it quite a lot. Wonder where my disc is and if it could play on my XP computer......

I actually picked up a replacement copy of The Dig this week. Great game. The graphics are primitive by today's standards but still beautiful. And I still hate the power plant puzzle. :p

Power plant puzzle? The one 10 minutes into the game? LOL. The turtle skeleton was much worse than that. :p

See also <---- (and slightly above).

I've played and finished all of those except Labyrinth and Zak (I've got up to Mars on Zak but that was years ago and I never finished it.)

Always enjoyed them more than the Sierra ones (though I've beaten a lot of those as well.)

I never had a problem with the turtle skeleton. At least with that one you know when you have it right (the description changes from "loose bones" to "dead creature). The power plant puzzle made you experiment and sit through it each and every time you tested it out. Highly annoying.

I don't think they had an adventure game misfire after DoTT AT ALL...

And don't forget, The Dig was originally what Speilberg wanted Deep Impact to be before he passed it off to Lucas to use for a videogame since they didn't have the technology to make it as a movie.

I actually don't think they misfired after Last Crusade. Full Throttle was probably too short but still quite awesome.

Eh, Monkey Island 4 was kinda weak. A horrible control scheme and I still shudder at the thought of Monkey Kombat.

Oh yeah. I played that game once. I liked the time travel puzzle but that was it.

Yet nobody complains about the Grim Fandango control system.

I think the control scheme was alright...a bit annoying at first but hardly gamebreaking.

When someone ask me what my favorite game of all time is I usually say The Curse of Monkey Island (or Zelda: A Link to the Past)
But any of the first three MI's, Jones, Grim Fandango, The Dig,.. Those where all great. This ish is actually PERFECT for the Nintendo DS. And I'd settle for some ports, but a new Monkey Island? *drool*

I actually know about that, I don't do it myself but I guess it's pretty sweet.

But I'm talking about real releases to get this genre rolling again. How cool would this be:

    Yeah, cool.

But the genre is rolling due to all the major players in LucasArts golden adventure period out making their own games, what with the 2nd season of Telltale's Sam & Max well underway, Crackpot's Insecticide (though more of an actioner with adventure elements), Deathspank (Ron Gilbert) and best of all, A Vampyre Story (Bill Tiller). And Mata Hari (Hal Barwood, Noah Falstein)

    Also Tim Schafer's Brütal Legend!

And that's not even mentioning all the indie adventure developers out there, and the countless AGS games which keep getting made.

Here in Germany, the publisher called dtp has been releasing quite a lot of adventure games in the last few years.

Plus, other smaller publishers do the same.

Here in Europe, these games are *really* coming again,

which is a strong irony of history, because LA actually stopped development on Sam & Max 2 because of - as they said - European adventure gamers suddenly vanishing.

I hate that it takes so long to track down just one of these in the US. Luckily, they are all worth the purchase.
