Alright, I like The Return of the King and I saw it in theaters, but i dont want it to break the record for the top grossing film of all time.

What i want to know is if the prices of tickets were how high they are today back in 1977, then would Star Wars be number one?

To me its not fare to say that The Return of the King might make more money than Star Wars because tickets were about $3.00 back then and are like 8.00 - 15.00 today. So of course it is gana make more money than any other film that came out almost 30 years ago. Star Wars had the #1 spot for 22 years, i would like to see Titanic or TROK do that.

I have faith that Star Wars will remain number two and not drop to number 3.

But if it does happen then good, because that just means that Episode 3 can top TROK and become #1 for ever.

To answer your initial question, no SW is not the top grossing film of all time.

The film that holds that honor is Gone With The Wind and I think SW is number 2 or 3 in that category. I personally see no problem with ROTK breaking SW's box office record, but that is just me.

No i know that Star Wars is not number one but number 2. The number 1 movie is Titanic, I believe. Here is a link to see the top 10.

However, if you account for inflation then GOTW is indeed the highest grossing film of all time. One must account for inflation in order to be fair to any previous and all future films. Titanic has made the most money, yes. However, the money that Titanic has made is not worth as much as the money that GOTW or SW was when they came out.

Yea, i think titanic was over 500,000,000. And this qoute makes fun of what you are talking abot...

And while this movie's box office may seem to hold an unbreakable record, just wait until ticket prices are up to $25 a person . . .

To be completely accurate, you must also factor in the length of the film and the amount of theaters it opened in.
