Hello While this may formally be more appropriate for fanfiction, a cursory search suggests this is the better venue for it. For those of you who have been around a while, you may recall that there were basically two pinnacles of fan in-universe analysis of Star Wars. There was Star Wars Technical Commentaries by Dr Curtis Saxton, which is still hosted by TFN, which focused on the scientific quantification and capabilities of technology. The other was Domus Publica by Julius Sykes, which focused and the historical political-economy of the Galactic Empire. Mr Sykes used the handle of Publius at StarDestroyer.Net, and went by Citizen_Chauvelin and "Tears of Palpatine" here. Unfortunately his site had hosting difficulties, first in 2005 resulting in a loss of some works in their entirety, and it has since lapsed. I am myself a very old fan, and found myself drawn back in to the community at the start of the pandemic. I have a great deal of archival material and correspondence with both going back well over 20 years. In the interest of seeing that this is not lost to the fan community, I have been steadily compiling and formatting what I have, and digging back in internet archives for what I didn't. I am hoping that long time members of these boards may have pieces I lack, so that together the complete archive can be assembled and shared. At Present, this is what I have: A Picturesque Uniform: The Merchant Navy, Other Militaries, and Pirates All the Emperor's Men: The Anatomy and Politics of the Galactic Empire All the Emperor's Men: Appendix A All the Emperor's Men: Appendix B Brave New World: The Government, Culture, and Starfleet of the United Federation of Planets Leviathan: Civil Life, the Rebellion, and the Apotheosis of Palpatine On Methodolgy On Polylingualism Peculiar Institutions: Discrimination and Slavery in the Galactic Empire Rattling the Saber: Sectors, Oversectors, and the Strategic Forces of the Galactic Empire Senatus Populusque Romulanus: The Government and Culture of the Romulan Star Empire Sic Transit Gloria: The Decline and Fall of the Galactic Empire Sic Transit Gloria: Part 1 Sic Transit Gloria: Part 2 Sic Transit Gloria: Part 3 Sic Transit Gloria: Part 4 Something Wicked This Way Comes: The Life and Times of Palpatine the Undying Complete Something Wicked This Way Comes: Part 1 Something Wicked This Way Comes: Part 2 Something Wicked This Way Comes: Part 3 Something Wicked This Way Comes: Part 4 The New Order In Power (sourcebook) The New Order In Power (with footnotes and sourcing) The Test of Wills I know I am missing "A Billion Here, a Billion There...: The Great Organs of Commerce of a Galaxy Far, Far Away" That is, such as things are, the "priority find", as it was lost in the 2005 website crash. At present, I do have a section from an appendix on specific corporations abut Kuat Drive Yards. I also do not know if additional segments of "Something Wicked This Way Comes" were every released, finding those if they exist would be excellent, or simply ruling them out. I am in the midst of recovering "Who's Who: Selected Biographies from a Galaxy Far, Far Away" to see what remains missing. If there are other pieces whose titles you recall but I do not have listed here, they would also be good to recover. Any help would be appreciated, in recovering this bit of fan history. Thank you!
Hey Analyst, I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to see this thread. I'm afraid that Publius was a bit before my time, but I was able to stumble upon some of his remaining works and I'm a huge fan. I've tried to gather together what little I can over the years. Everything that I've found is already in your possession and I can't offer you any of the missing works you've listed. However, I've never had the pleasure of reading many of the pieces you already have. Do you have any links or a shared database that I might be able to access to read them all? As a fellow fan, I would be enormously grateful.
Oh I remember Publius well and saved a lot myself. Sadly it is not easily found on my external drives and I have to dig deep what I can find. Might take a while but I am glad this great site is brought up again. How/Where do you plan to host it? As I know space issues usually drive up hosting costs and I and many other fans got loads of other lost online content saved that would be a shame to remain lost. But as said, digging all up and sorting it properly will take time. But I will check for specific items soon when I am near my externals again.
@Research_Analyst Hey there again, I got you covered with "A billion here, a billion there"! I have it! Also others you mentioned are in my folder! Something wicked, Who is Who, etc. Matter of fact, I can zip up the entire folder for DomusPublica by Publius and share it via wetransfer if you like, just need your email adress to send it anytime you are ready! I saved the website in htm files (with picture folder) and not as pdf or screenshot. So someone else can turn that into other formats if needed. Currently my "SW Online Files Archive" is at Version 3.0 with over 40GB with many official, author and fansites saved along with other stuff. I can't share its entirety but will look up if anything specific is needed.
I guess nobody needs it after all? Since I offered it nobody contacted me with email to recieve it, @Research_Analyst neither you?????
Sure, just am not home right now. Will send as soon as possible, if not by tomorrow, remind me after Celebration. Gesendet von meinem FP3 mit Tapatalk
If anyone is still interested, I've been doing a bit of research of my own into Publius's material, and after receiving Cole's archive, I've done some cross-checking/ referencing. https://web.archive.org/web/20120717000114/http://www.domuspublica.net/index.html https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://domuspublica.net/index.php/* So, in addition to Cole's personal archive, there are also a couple of links to the site on the Wayback Machine. The issue, though, is that of all these 3 resources, neither one is fully complete, and each one contains content that can't be found in any of the others. There's also some content that has sadly been lost, which I'll get to later. Cole's archive is probably the most complete archive of Publius's site, but there are a few articles not present there that can be found on archive.org: - "Brave New World: The Government, Culture, and Starfleet of the United Federation of Planets" (also includes an appendix) - "Senatus Populusque Romulanus: The Government and Culture of the Romulan Star Empire" - "On Methodology" - Parts 3 and 4 of "Something Wicked This Way Comes: The Life and Times of Palpatine the Undying" (as Research_Analyst pointed out in his first post, there may (or may not) have been additional parts released that we don't know about. It seems as though there would be, given that the biography abruptly stops in the middle of his life.) - Multiple write-ups that were released as part of "Who's Who: Selected Biographies from a Galaxy Far, Far Away" - One write-up (Rendili StarDrive) that was released as part of "A Billion Here, a Billion There...: The Great Organs of Commerce of a Galaxy Far, Far Away" - While not the main purpose of Publius's site, he also made some fanfics and drawings that can only be found on archive.org. Cole's archive contains numerous write-ups released for "Who's Who" and "A Billion Here, a Billion There...:" which cannot be found anywhere else. Also worth mentioning is "The New Order in Power", which (I'm pretty sure) was never posted on the Domus Publica, but rather was posted on stardestroyer.net and is still available there. It's definitely a Domus Publica-type thing despite not being posted there. Though judging from Research_Analyst's post, maybe it was posted there? It certainly seems, at least, like he may know more about it than I do. Publius also wrote a Batman novella called You Know My Name: A Tale of Gotham Nights, which is available on stardestroyer.net and fanfiction.net. As stated earlier, some of Publius's work is not readily available, or fully lost. These include: - The Test of Wills (only the prologue and first two chapters are available, on archive.org, if you check the earlier versions of the site, from 2008 and before). He later uploaded a link to a PDF version of the entire thing, but the link is dead. (You Know My Name has a dead link in the same manner, but fortunately it is availible elsewhere. - "A Picturesque Uniform: The Merchant Navy, Other Militaries, and Pirates" (supposedly it was never completed, but since it can be found on archive.org (with a dead link) and Research_Analyst's archive, I'm not sure if this is true) - Multiple write-ups that were done as part of the "Who's Who" series. They can be found on archive.org via the second link, but the links are either dead/404 errors, or link to a different site whose domain overrode the old one when it shut down. ("A Picturesque Uniform", Test of Wills chapters 3-10, and a mysterious "Old Updates" (likely not an actual article) are in the same situation. As is "Appendix A" of "Brave New World"—it seems there might have been more than one appendix? If so, it certainly doesn't show up under the other archive.org link, which only shows one index, but a second may have been added later?) - There's also at least one "Who's Who" entry (on Lord Cronal/"Blackhole") which was mentioned by Publius but apparently was never archived in the first place, since it doesn't show up anywhere. It's entirely possible that other "Who's Who"/"Billion Here, Billion There" entries have also never been archived, but unfortunately we have no way of knowing for sure. (Same goes for additional parts of "Something Wicked This Way Comes", if they were ever made.) I've told ColeFardreamer about this stuff already, and I plan on PMing Research_Analyst since he has said that he has "A Picturesque Uniform", The Test of Wills, and perhaps some of the unavailable "Who's Who" write-ups. I myself am interested in preserving Publius's excellent work, and I know some others are as well, and hopefully all the missing pieces can be made available. (Sorry for such a long post, LOL)
Not currently, unfortunately. I'm trying to find it myself, and I'll let you/everyone know if I get ahold of it.
Oh wow, awesome! Do you by chance have any other of Publius's content? Specifically there are some things mentioned in my post above that are not presently available either through archive.org or ColeFardreamer's archive.
