Maybe you could post a little bit of info about Qui-Gon and Tahl so people have some things to discuss? :)

I'm glad that someone has started this up again, this is just from my memory but here's stuff I know about Tahl and Qui Gon

They met when they were kids (8/9?)

At first they were slightly rivals but soon became friends

Tahl never took a padawan until Bant Eerin because of her disability (can I say anything or do I have to write a spoiler gap?) This became a source of argument between Qui Gon and Tahl

Qui Gon was always willing to save her despite what was going on around him I.E Melida/Daan

I can't think of anything else but I'm sure somebody else will fill in the gap much more eloquently.

    Here are the facts:

Qui-Gon and Tahl are friends...well, at least until the Jedi Apprentice series. Then they become lovers. They fall in love in the 14th book of the series and pledge themselves to each other. Unfortunately, Tahl gets kidnapped at the end of that book, and dies in the next one. So Qui-Gon gets quite dark in the 16th book, and almost turns to the dark side (despite the fact that he is a Jedi Master). Luckily, Obi-Wan ( :D :) ) reminds his Master to stay on the light path, and Qui-Gon becomes normal again, but with an empty space in his heart forever.

Okay this contains SPOILERS for the ties that bind-the death of hope

In reality how could Qui Gon and Tahl make it work? I mean the council already knows Qui's reputation so why would they ever give permsission to let them bond (or marry) and how would Tahl and Qui Gon react to that? Would they do it anyway?
Just a couple of points to start a conversation

Seriously, I think that the Jedi Council will just ignore them. Hey, it's Qui-Gon's who's performing this daring action...not the other Jedi. The guy's a rebel, though a loyal Jedi.

Maybe if they proved they could be together and not let it interfere with the jobs they perform and not get tied down to personal stuff and be in love and Jedi at the same time.

my only thing is Jude Wattson had a cheep way of killing off good characters... I mean Xanatos took his own life (the guy was too smart to do that), then Tahl dies? what?

Oh and Tahl just hadn't taken a padawan before Bant because she liked working alone, thus why even after taking Bant, Tahl left her behind a lot. Her going blind happened when Obi first met her, and was partly his fault, seeing as he stalled things. Can somebody PM me a refreasher as to what happens in book 17 and 18, as it's been a bit since I read those and I don't seem to have them in my collection for some reason...

Yeah, sure, I will PM you, Taz_Jinn.

And yeah, you were so right about Ms Watson killing off good characters. But isn't that what all authors do? I mean, I know that Harry Potter's got nothing to do with Star Wars, but yeah, J.K. Rowling killed characters off too (not telling who, for those of you who did not read them)! Back to the topic, I think killing off the best characters is a style of writing. Take Qui-Gon Jinn for example. One moment Lucas creates him, the next moment he destroys him. That's the way all stories go... :(

I think she's from the planet Noordi...least I think it was Noordi.

Anyway, books #17 and #18 are really about how Qui-Gon managed to go back to his usual self at last, and in #17, he and Obi-Wan are assigned to protect a witness to a crime one family (the Cobrals) had committed against one of their members. Obi-Wan has a crush on the witness, Lena Cobral, widow of the murdered Cobral, but Qui-Gon tells him that infatuation may mislead Kenobi. While Lena talks of her late husband, Qui-Gon understands and soon becomes his usual self, because he admires Lena's strength and bravery despite her husband's death and feels he should do the same. In #18, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are sent to a food production planet to prevent a civil war from happening, and we watch Obi-Wan grow into manhood as he defeats Qui-Gon in a training duel.

What do you think Tahl would have made of Qui Gon 'abandoning' Obi Wan to train Anakin?

I think she would have comforted Obi-Wan but also agree with how Qui-Gon's dealing with things. You know Tahl, she has faith in people making their own decisions and such.

Discover the Secrets of the Jedi
    July 20, 2004

Attachment is forbidden, but it is a temptation that runs through several generations of Jedi. Obi-Wan Kenobi struggled with his emotions as a young man, as he denied himself his feelings for fellow Padawan Siri Tachi. His mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn, knew full well the dangers of such feelings, and instructed his pupil on how to concentrate on the tasks at hand.
Years later, Obi-Wan's apprentice finds himself similarly torn. Anakin Skywalker is secretly married to Padmé Amidala, but as the Clone Wars rage on, he and Kenobi have pressing missions to attend to. One such duty sees Obi-Wan, Anakin and Siri drawn into a race to acquire a valuable piece of technology before it falls into the wrong hands.

This story is told in Star Wars: Secrets of the Jedi, a new novel by Jude Watson for Scholastic, Inc. In the tradition of Legacy of the Jedi, this book spans generations of Jedi, telling a tale that is both epic and personal

Does anyone think that book's going to contain some Qui-Gon/Tahl romance? Just a question for all the Qui-Gon/Tahl shippers :) .

The thing about Obi-Wan falling for Siri is so cool...it kinda means that it's common for Jedi to have feelings for another person, just that it's forbidden. Wow, I guess Jude Watson likes her Jedi to be breaking the rules with their feelings, lol.

YAY! I thought this thread went missing before I went on an extra-long vacation, but it's back!

Okay, the bit on Qui-Gon/Tahl, from my point of view (yeah, like everything else in this post isn't spoken in my point of view =P)

~love their relationship - from friends to lovers
~their romance is too short (and so I complain)!
~best romance in the Star Wars EU!!!

Little bit more information. Cover art looks rather groovy - but no Tahl unfortunately.

I wish the QG/Tahl romance had been covered in more depth...it has such great potential. I hope the Obi-Wan/Siri story gets more attention. I loved how QG and Tahl got together, but she was killed off before anything more could happen. I think a great story opportunity was missed there.

bumping this topic up-i love the Jedi apprentice series, and wish there were more to it. Anything with a Qui Gon backstory intriges me. I hope someone writes a backstory on Qui Gon as a padawan and his learning to be a Master!
Thoughts on the romance- I loved that he has a passion for her, and that he is unafraid of it- though it was terrible for her to die, there was so much left unsaid.
