I think no matter what, everybody will always think of Carrey and Sandler as comedians.

But now their roles are changing slightly.

Jim Carrey did more than seven comedy films before doing his first serious film, The Truman Show. After that, he did a semi-serious, semi-comedic movie as Andy Kaufman called Man on the Moon. Then in 2001 he did The Majestic a very underrated film from my point of view.

This year he'll be in a comedy film like the ones that made his famous, Bruce Almighty.

After that, it seems like he'll be going back an fourth between comedies and dramas.

    Here's his movie list:

    2003 or 2004:
Untitled Ghost Story Film - Carrey will star with Nicole Kidman is a horror/thriller type of film where Carrey is haunted by Kidman (his dead wife).
The Children of the Dust Bowl - A historical drama set in the 1930's about migrant workers.
Lemony Snickets: A Series of Unfortunate Events - a children's fantasy based on popular children's books.
Kind Hearts and Coronets - comedy
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - comedy/romance - from the creators of Being John Malkovich
American Neurotic - drama about a mentally unstable man

Jim Carrey looks like he'll have a wide range of films to do. Comedy/Romance, Drama/Historical, Horror/Thriller, and Children's/Fantasy.

I'm still amazed by Jim Carrey since I never thought he could do anything serious or well acted other than doing comedy roles.

Now for Adam Sandler. I'm sure many people were surprised by his semi-serious role in Punch-Drunk Love. He showed me he has actual acting ability. This year he'll be in Anger Management.

Along with doing a number of comedies that include Niagra, Good Cook, Likes Music, Solomon Grundy, The Johnson Five, and Fifty First Kisses, he will also be doing a musical/comedy called Romance and Cigarettes, a historical/war/action/drama film called Glorious B@$t@rd$, and The Sun of the Bride, a dramatic comedy.

Both Sandler and Carrey have busy schedules, and each are doing a wide range of films. Any thoughts on whether or not they should stick to comedy, if they're good at dramas, or such?

Carrey I definitely find to be an underrated, good dramatic actor. Great, no, but he's still good at it. When mixed with a certain amount of comedy (which one must admit he has a natural flair for) like in The Truman Show, he's at his best. I do also think that The Majestic was grossly underrated as well. I thought it was a really good film.

As for Sandler... I don't even think he's a good comedian, so I haven't really seen him in much, sorry.

Sorry Solojones but I have to disagree with you. IMO Adam Sandler is hilarious, I love all of his movies! Billy Madison is the best of them all. "Stop looking at me swan!!" I love that line. :p

I don't really like Sandler either. His comedic roles are limited to either someone who is varying degrees of stupid, or someone who is really angry and loud. I mean, how many of his "classic" lines are delivered when he's screaming at the top of his lungs?

And sometimes his roles combine the worst of both worlds [face_plain]

Sandler is one note in everything. He could change I s'pose but I doubt it
Carrey has the chops for real acting.

Carrey is a great actor who should have at least been nominated for both Man on the Moon and The Truman Show. I think he did a good job in The Majestic. Now Sandler used to be funny in movies like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore but now his comedies are not even funny. I haven't seen Punch-Drunk-Love, so I don't know how he is when he's acting seriously.

Another underrated actor who can do both comedic and dramatic roles well is Brendan Fraiser.

I'm not really fond of Sandler's acting however, Carrey is a different story. I am becoming more and more impressed with Carrey's dramatic acting. From The Truman Show, which I saw a while ago and was impressed to how well Carrey was at a role like that, to The Majestic, which I just saw today. I agree with your saying that The Majestic was underrated, it had a great story and great acting.

I'm curious about that film with Kidman he's going to make, I'll keep an eye out for it.

    And like that...he's gone.

Hmm, Kind Hearts and Coronets. Sounds like another pointless remake. Is he playing the lead or the Alec Guiness parts?

I don't understand how it'll function in America. It was a scathing satire on the British hereditary system. I don't think there's anything in America that it can address with the same amount of impact.

They'll have to cut the heart out of the film to put Carrey in it. Oh, wait, it's a remake after all . . . that's standard for the course.

Both of them are hilarious (Dumb & Dumber & Happy Gilmore, respectively) and both can be "serious" actors. Sandler was good in Punch-Drunk Love and Carrey was decent in The Majestic.
