The Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser prophesied in the seventeenth century:

The sixth period of the Church [with the fifth period beginning in circa A. D. 1520 and lasting even unto today] will begin with the powerful Monarch and the Holy Pontiff, as mentioned previously, and it will last until the revelation of Antichrist. In this period, God will console His Holy Church for the affliction and great tribulation, which she has endured during the fifth period. All nations will become Catholic. Vocations will be abundant and never before, and all men will seek only the Kingdom of God and His justice. Men will live in peace, and this will be granted because people will make their peace with God. They will live under the protection of the Great Monarch and his successors.

The powerful Monarch, who will be sent by God, will uproot every republic. He will submit everything to his authority, and he will show great zeal for the true Church of Christ. The empire of the Mohammedans will be broken up, and this Monarch will reign in the East as well as in the West. All nations will come to worship God the true Catholic and Roman faith. There will be many Saints and Doctors (of the Church) on earth. Peace will reign over the whole earth because God will bind Satan for a number of years until the days of the Son of Perdition. No one will be able to pervert the word of God since, during the sixth period, there will be an ecumenic council which will be the greatest of all councils. By the grace of God, by the power of the Great Monarch, by the authority of the Holy Pontiff, and by the union of all the most devout princes, atheism and every heresy will be banished from the earth. The Council will define the true sense of Holy Scripture, and this will be believed and accepted by everyone.

When everything has been ruined by war, when Catholics are hard-pressed by traitorous co-religionists and heretics, when the Church and her servants are denied their rights, when the monarchies have been overthrown and their rulers murdered, then the hand of Almighty God will work a marvelous change, something seemingly impossible according to human reason?

There will rise a valiant king anointed by God. He will be a Catholic and a descendant of Louis IX, yet a descendant also of an old imperial German family, born in exile. He will rule supreme in temporal matters. The Pope will rule supreme in spiritual matters at the same time. Persecution will cease and justice shall reign. He will root out false doctrines. His dominion will extend from East to West. All nations will adore God their Lord according to Catholic teaching. There will be many wise and just men. People will love justice, and peace will reign over the whole earth, for Divine Power will bind Satan for many years until the coming of the Son of Perdition?

The Great Monarch will have special help of God and be unconquerable?

Put that together with St. Malachy's prophecy that says there will be only one Pope after Benedict XVI (who is 78 years old) dies. If these two prophecies are true, then we are on the cusp of a golden age.

(I'm not Catholic, but I'd surely convert if I saw these things come true with my own eyes.)

Thoughts? I'm especially interested in what Catholics have to say. The parallels with Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings are both obvious and interesting.

I wonder if this is at all related to the Merovingian line?

That all sounds very nice. Unfortunately, I have my own secular prophecy of Malthusian doom that I'm partial to.

What are the parallels to Aragorn?

Persecution will cease and justice shall reign. He will root out false doctrines.

    Hmm... what will cease again?

Aragorn was the heir of long-ago righteous kings, though for centuries there hadn't been a king (only stewards). Similarly, this prophesied righteous king is the heir of the 13th-century St. Louis IX, though there hasn't been a king in France in over 200 years, and there hasn't been a major Catholic monarch since the early 20th century.

Therefore, if Bartholomew Holzhauser is right, the true and rightful king will return and claim his rightful throne, displacing the unrighteous presidents and such (as Aragorn displaced the unrighteous steward).

Yes, it sure does sound that when the King and Pope impose catholic religion on the world it will be the end of persecution, and all will obey the king and council without question or having a mind of our own, and we'll all be in paradise...

That whole republic uprooting and submitting to authority bit doesn't sound terribly peaceful to me.

This sort of thing falls under the category of private revelation, which is to be taken "with human faith." In other words, these prophecies should only be believed in the sense that you believe what a friend tells you. And just like your friend's stories, you don't have to believe him either. My opinion would be to take a very, very large dose of salt with these two prophecies.

I was with the idea until this. Bartholomew Holzhauser isn't a prophet, he is a white-power advocate. Unless he intended this to be a metaphor. As in the king would have the qualities of these figures as if he descended from them. But I doubt it.

A complete load of nonsense, is what I make of it. And nyway, before the whole world converts to Catholic Church, presumably there would have to be an untold number of wars and suffering to wipe out all the other religions. :(

As a Catholic, I would tell you to not believe it. I have always been taught not to dwell on prophesies. Maybe it is prophesies like this one that makes fundamentalist Christians think the Pope is the Devil. ;) [face_peace]

Oh right, I guessed I missed the part in the Silmarillion when the Numenoreans overthrew the monarchy and executed the King ;)

I love the name dropping too. Bart seems to really approve of King Louis IX if he cited that Aragorn was this guys heir rather than... you know... his actual heir Philip III.

It is indeed true that these are private revelations, rather than general revelation (which is binding upon all Catholics). From a Catholic point of view, it seems that these prophecies should give one a sense of joy and hope. Is it certain (again, from a Catholic point of view) that these prophecies will come true? No. On the other hand, it seems that a Catholic might want to be very reticent to be dismissive of the words of holy saints and blesseds.

That does not follow. If one looks at another "private" (but how "private" can it be when 70,000 people saw the prophesied Miracle of the Sun in 1917?) Catholic revelation, Our Lady of Fatima told the three child-seers that when the Pope consecrates Russia to her Immaculate Heart, the Russians would come like a flood into the Catholic Church. Large-scale conversions can miraculously be accomplished. In fact, I think that the conversion of essentially the entire earth could be accomplished only by miracle. I don't see how it could be accomplished militarily.

Actually, in Tolkien's letters, he would often compare various groups of people with orcs and their leaders with Sauron. In this case, the anti-Catholic forces who destroyed the Catholic monarchies would play the part of the forces of Morgoth/Sauron who overthrew the line of Numenorean kings.

Since I don't know anything about LOTR, I thought it sounded Star Warsy:

The powerful Chosen One, who will be sent by the Force, will uproot the Republic. He will submit everything to the Emperor's authority, and he will show great zeal for the dark side of the Force. The alliance of the Seperatists will be broken up, and this Emperor will reign in the Outer Rim as well as in the galactic core. All systems will come to worship Palpatine the true Emperor and the Galactic Empire. There will be many Stormtroopers in the galaxy. Peace will reign over the whole galaxy because the Force will bind the Jedi for a number of years until the days of the Son of Skywalker etc.
