Could there be two people who loved Han more than Leia, and Chewie? Why straight after his death, did they not console each other? Han love aside, what about all the stuff they've been through together through the years. What do you think happened in the years after ROTJ, that has created a distance between these two?

Chewie helped Kylo turn to the darkside and Leia never forgave him for it. #starwarstheory.

This is because of the affair Leia had with Chewie which resulted in the birth of Snoke.

But seriously, there is no "distance." Chewie gives Leia a huge hug when they meet again and there is obvious affection between the two.

This just wasn't important to the plot. There was no teary eyed "poor Leia" scene in the movie. Not to mention Han and Leia had been apart for years.

I think it's a mistake. The filmmakers just dropped the ball.

The lack of mourning in general was disquieting. I understand that there weren't a huge amount of opportunities to show characters broken up over Han's death, but the occurrence deserved more screen than it was received. The primary person the audience saw get upset about Han's death is Rey, who only met him a short time before he was killed. Their lack of history together diluted the poignancy of the grief. It almost felt unfair that he died surrounded by almost strangers (exception: Chewie) instead of with others that had more history with him.

Other than that, the most we get is Leia sitting around, looking mildly dejected.

Not seeing the mourning is a SW trope that goes all the way back to '77. Who mourned for Lars and Beru, or all the people of Alderaan, or Ben Kenobi, or Biggs Darklighter? Nope, maybe just a quick "so long" and get on with the action and the story. It's the SW way.

This obviously showed that they just wanted Han dead for another storyline.
Han dying wasnt about Han dying.

I'd like to think Chewie just wanted to be by himself for some time in mourning. He seems the type to go dwell in a corner, trying to cope with what's happened

I paid attention to the scene. Chewie goes with Finn, who's gravely injured. I think it's normal in such a circumstance.
Also, they wanted that to be a Rey/Leia moment. (And I don't know why Rey is not really concerned about Finn, but whatever).

I don't know, I suppose they would console each other later, or some other time. Who's to say after Finn was safely in the medical bay and Leia had talked to Rey, Leia and Chewie did not have a hug together and cried?

But I missed some kind of ceremony for Han.

I said this in another thread, but by way of "you guys aren't thinking clearly":

Chewie: "oh Hey Leia, yeah so thanks for guilting my best friend into getting skewered by your worthless son."
    Leia: "..."
    Chewie: "who I shot."

    Great time for a hug.

I never considered that, but it makes sense. I still think it makes sense that he'd be somwheat worried about Finn.

Yeah - isn't Leia the same person who witnessed her entire planet get wiped out and was like upset for 30 seconds?

Maybe Leia was mad at Chewie for trying to kill her son. Yes, he might be a sociopathic father killing little snot, but he's still her son.

Both Chewie and Leia mourn in TFA. We didn't need to see slow-motion tears and a funeral scenes to underline that. Not a problem at all.

The thing is she hugs Rey, whom she’s never speaks to, and ignores Chewbacca was very bothersome. It is possible their was cut material involved but that just makes it worse, bad editing.

Chewie was rushing along to help Finn, who had helped him when he was wounded on the Giant Freighter. So there was no time for hugging.

Star Wars characters are people of action. Finn needed saving, and that's what Chewie was focusing on when they landed.

Morning would have derailed the pace.

At this point we've seen ramifications of Hans death. We saw the reaction of Chewy, Rey, and Finn (as well as Kylo). We then see Kylo get beaten down as punishment. Then we have a silent moment amidst the celebration where Rey sees a dazed Leia and shares an embrace. We also see Chewbacca sitting staring solemnly. JJ even said Star Wars is supposed to be happy and upbeat, that's why he scripted the return of R2 and Luke at this point- because if we had to lose Han we need to take joy in getting someone back.

A great decision, IMO. And decisions like this are at the core of why this film feels like a Star Wars film.

I don't think that was even the case. I think Chewbacca was shaken and focused on getting Finn to safety. Leia on the other hand was watching the Falcon unload hoping what she feared wasn't true and that Han, (or even Han and Ben) would have made it back. Instead she saw Rey.

I like that explanation and hope it's true, but my sense was more that they just forgot to include the scene...even a pat on the hand or something as they were passing each other would've been better than not even acknowledging each other.

The film showed Leia and Chewie in mourning, but separately. I suspect this was intentional.

Who knows, there may be some deleted scenes inserted into the TFA DVD that show Rey and Leia hugging and crying in the medical room, once the emotions of losing Han Solo kick in... With Chewbacca coming over to comfort them and give a warm hug.
