ROTS online excerpt (Hyperspace members only so far)

    From the inside flap:

The turning point for the entire Star Wars saga is at hand

After years of civil war, the Separatists have battered the already faltering Republic nearly to the point of collapse. On Coruscant, the Senate watches anxiously as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine aggressively strips away more and more constitutional liberties in the name of safeguarding the Republic. Yoda, Mace Windu, and their fellow Masters grapple with the Chancellor?s disturbing move to assume control of the Jedi Council. And Anakin Skywalker, the prophesied Chosen One, destined to bring balance to the Force, is increasingly consumed by his fear that his secret love, Senator Padmé Amidala, will die.

As the combat escalates across the galaxy, the stage is set for an explosive endgame: Obi-Wan undertakes a perilous mission to destroy the dreaded Separatist military leader General Grievous. Palpatine, eager to secure even greater control, subtly influences public opinion to turn against the Jedi. And a conflicted Anakin?tormented by unspeakable visions?edges dangerously closer to the brink of a galaxy-shaping decision. It remains only for Darth Sidious, whose shadow looms ever larger, to strike the final staggering blow against the Republic . . . and to ordain a fearsome new Sith Lord: Darth Vader.

Based on the screenplay of the eagerly anticipated final film in George Lucas?s epic saga, bestselling Star Wars author Matthew Stover?s novel crackles with action, captures the iconic characters in all their complexity, and brings a space opera masterpiece full circle in stunning style.

Might wait a while to get the book fro a weeks for 2 reasons: 1) it's 30% off once it becomes a best seller 2) I don't want to read it yet :p

The Age of Heroes. ****ing amazing! The whole Anakin and Obi-Wan section brought tears to my eyes. Easily the best lead-in to any novel I've read. I was once worried Stover's unique style would ruin the novel. I was wrong. Matthew, all is forgiven!

Here's hoping even a percentage of the finished novel is up to the standard of that excerpt. And the film itself, for that matter.

You have to completely * out profanity.

Yeah that intro was entralling- it blew me away. If the rest of the book can follow it, Matt's delivered big time.

And, three EU references so far ;)

    I want Hyperspace!

    Sigh.

I can't wait until school finishes for the autumn break; I'm going to go and buy Labyrinth of Evil and Revenge of the Sith, then spend the next few days reading them happily!

After watching the trailer, I have decided that there is no way I can buy the book before I see the movie because I don't have the willpower to not read it :p

I am going to read the book, because the story is going to be different to what we are going to see in the movie.

The story should be pretty much the same thing, except for 2 or 3 scenes that may have gotten altered during the pick-up shooting or in editing or something.

Likewise, Salvatore's AOTC novel depicted *both* of the produced "Kenobi/Mace" and "Kenobi/Mace/Yoda" walk-'n'-talk sequences, despite one of them getting Liquid Papered-over during the pickups.

Woah boy, that excerpt -- this will be the novelization to end all novelizations, methinks. Wow.

Things like what that excerpt embodies are why I love Star Wars to begin with.

So, do you guys think the excerpt will be available to non-Hyperspace members before the book actually comes out? I really want to see what you're all talking about, you're making it sound so awesome!

    >>So, do you guys think the excerpt will be available to non-Hyperspace members before the book actually comes out?<<

This specific article posted with the Matt Stover interview and the novel intro will likely not be available to non-hyperspace members since it's part of the Insider magazine's online supplement.

However, I'm sure Del Rey will make some kind of excerpt available online- though whether or not it's the intro or not remains to be seen.

Wow. The excerpt actually had me in tears by the end.

There's no way I'm going to buy the book before the movie. SW is still about visuals to me, and I want to see the various scenes onscreen before I read them.

I'll probably see the movie 4 or 5 times THEN buy the book. I won't be able to wait for 30% off, unless it's already off by May 20th.;)

What's the point of owning movies (and books, for that matter) if you never read them again?
