I was watching Se7en recently and it got me thinking about star wars, who in the movies or the EU embody each of the Seven Deadly Sins?

    1.Gluttony, Jabba the Hutt.
    2.Greed, Palpatine.
    3.Sloth,Jar Jar Binks.
    4.Pride,Dooku.
    5.Lust, Mara Jade.
    6.Envy,Anakin Skywalker.
    7.Wrath, Darth Maul.

Any thoughts? sorry if this thread is off topic but its interesting to guess.

RF: Not really a Lit topic...

I dont know, representation of Sins is a literary device, and making a character so affiliated with a certain sin. I don't really agree with Mara and Lust though either.

I do agree with Jar Jar and sloth, he clearly gains everything he has from doing nothing for it. He gets it all the easy way, handed to him, being in the right place at the right time.

Alema is deformed now so she cannot be Lust, but Mara Jade a young redhead is the biggest symbol of lust, too bad shes a trained killer though, i dont post in Community, almost all of their threads are fanclub threads and very few are serious topics, i dont waste my time posting threads in a forum like that.

Theres no proof that Jar Jar is dead of old age yet, and who cares anyway? they are all good characters.

Alema being deformed means that certain people are less likely to lust over her, it certainly does not mean she cannot lust, or embody lust. You're talking about the seven deadly sins; I'd say a grotesque representation would be appropriate considering their context in Christian mythology.

Further I don't think that Mara simply being a young redhead (and she's not young in a lot of EU literature) should be enough to decide that she's synonymous with lust. The fact that you focus on a rather unimportant detail (her hair colour) and then say too bad about a defining characteristic kind of suggests you may be approaching this the wrong way? Also, while red hair is often seen as sexy, it's also often historically seen as a sign of the devil, of betrayal or untrustworthiness. Some myths suggest that Judas had red hair. So again, we're back to subjective context rather than supportable characteristics.

In all other examples the character is full of the sin described, they don't inspire it in others. Which means that I'm with Thrawn; Alema is much more appropriate than Mara.

Its pretty sick how an alien can trigger lust in fans then, my wife is a redhead and almost only redheads trigger lust in me, all other hair colors are a dime a dozen but redheads are rare and foxy, and red hair being associated with the devil is just a belief by people in the middle ages that didnt know anything, the type of people that burned witches at the stake, they were ignorant, black is the color of the devil because it represents darkness and evil, white embodies love and purity, green is plants, color means something different to everyone, but lets not dwell on people from the past.
