    Hi guys,

I was just wondering whether anyone in here actually watches the Shield?!
Just started watching it on DVD (Season 1+2) and am totally hooked on it.
Great show, interesting characters and intriguing plot lines.

I've never seen it. What is it you like about it? I assume it's a cop show . . . what does it have to offer that other such shows don't?

    yeah its a copshow.
I like the gritty realism, great characters, intriguing plots and mostly that it's not your typical b/w characters.
everyone is good and bad. sometimes good for a bad reason, sometimes vice versa.

    Is it worth buying?

The Shield is the best cop show i've ever seen.

what does it have to offer that other such shows don't?

it just doesn't pull any punches. the lead character is, far and away, the dirtiest cop i've ever seen on TV as a protagonist, but he's also a complicated guy living in a complicated world. the reforming captain who wants to take him down is more interested in doing so so he can run for city council as a crusader who busts dirty cops than for any other reason. it's all ball-busting politics and complex characters in a pressure-cooker environment.

watch the pilot episode to the ending and you'll get what's so great about it.

I think its worth buying especially given the low price for a series box.
it just costs around 40 Canadian Dollars! ;)
and dizfactor is right, just watch the pilot from beginning to end and you'll know what the series is about. if you're not hooked by then I won't understand you ;)
the end of the pilot really surprised me in a positive way and I couldn't wait to watch the next episode!!

Oh, yea, The Shield is a great show. Ive been watching since day one and its easily one of my top 3 favorite shows on tv. The first three seasons were awesome and I cannot wait to see what they have planned for the next one.

I loved season three and thought that it was just as good (if not better) than the previous two. Once again the storylines and acting are top notch, and things are even more intense this time around because of the fallout with the money train. Another cool thing about S3 is that they did 15 episodes instead of the usual 13.

Oh, and something happens in the fifth episode that is so disturbing that you'll probably never watch the show the same way again...

    Glenn Close Aboard The Shield
    Source: The Hollywood Reporter
    October 21, 2004

Glenn Close will join Emmy-winning actor Michael Chiklis in the FX police drama The Shield as a series regular for its upcoming fourth season, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Emmy-winning actress will appear in all 13 episodes, which go into production in January. The new season of "Shield" will premiere later in the first quarter next year.

Close will play a new captain at the Farmington precinct where she will oversee Detective Vic Mackey (Chiklis).

I'd agree that the Shield is character driven, and what they do is gripping.

However, the best cop show that could actually take place in a real police department is Boomtown.

Boomtown, especially in the early episodes, perfectly captures the interaction between the various agencies in a municipal setting.

Every story was told from the viewpoints of all those involved. Think "Pulp Fiction" non-linear style.

Unfortunately, the non-linear style confused a lot of viewers, and the series was cancelled.

However, a set is now available on DVD as well. If people like the Shield, they should also like Boomtown.

Yea, I watched Boomtown a few times and I thought that it was well done. Too bad NBC never really gave it a chance.

And I think that getting Glenn Close to play the new Captain of The Barn is a helluva a coup.

Anyone else wonder if Aceveda will still be on the show now that he's been elected to the City Council ?

Michael Chiklis played Curly in the Three Stooges TV-movie. Pretty good actor.

Now that Aceveda is on the City Council, though, he could probably crush Mackey on a whim. I wonder how the producers are going to get around that.
