OK so reading through the legacy of the Force novels, and we have "The Ship", which I believe is a Sith meditation sphere

Someone explain to me what it actually is? Its not alive, yet it can "talk" through the Force, aid Force users, and use Force telekines? Surley this should be impossible?

I like to think of it as a highly complex holocron.

The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities, some considered to be unnatural.

That is about the best way to explain that. The Sith can do some freaky stuff when they put their evil minds to it.

It's a fancy macguffin, that serves the needs of the plot.

I like that analogy. It's a holocron with wings... and a gun!? :p

Thing is I have never heard of holocrons Force pushing or enhancing a Force users Force ability...

I know the Dark Side is a pathway to many abilities some would consider unatural, but making a ship made from metal "alive" and with Force strength too? thats a pretty unnatural ability to say the least

Well there's several other instances of (ancient) tech that use the Force like the Star Forge, so why not Ship? The Wook entry even describes the Star Forge as "semi living." Sounds like Ship.

    [face_laugh] I like that.

Could it be a cross between Sith and Vong technology?

I vote for Jabitha, the Sekotan starship from Zonama Sekot... if only she was still alive :(

well, we know Lightsaber crystals can be "Force-attuned" and lightsabers cease functioning in anti-force bubbles

its been a while, but IIRC, the Sith meditation sphere in the original TOTJ comics had a bunch of crystals in its command center; assumedly these are the seat of its AI and are Force-attuned similarly?

Ship is like R2 D2 only bigger, older and more dangerous. That's how I see it. It's non living and has an evolved personality. It does what it was programmed to do. It has no ambitions of it's own. It can touch the Force in a limited way. It's kinda cool like that, but not over the top.

    o_O

when did this become a thing that happens? I quit reading star wars after legacy of the force. Is this something that pops up in fate of the jedi? I do not approve.

Nope. It sounds like game mechanics.

Lightsabers have always worked fine inside ysalamir anti-Force bubbles.

See: Luke, in Heir to the Empire, taking out an entire squad of Imperial stormtroopers sans the Force- due to a planet-load of ysalamiri negating his Force powers- with nothing but his wits and his still-functioning lightsaber.

After seeing the cover to Dawn of the Jedi, I wonder if the tech used to build/create Ship could be connected to the Tho-Yor Pyramids

right, Riptide, so nothing to do with ysalamari or with game-mechanics

and the Riptide effect, the anti-Force bubble I speak of, seems to be something different from what the Ysalamiri do; in fact it MUST be, since has as already been pointed out, ysalamari don't effect lightsabers

It was stated that the two umbrans were freaks of nature, Like the ysalimari but far more intense. It was described as if being in a hole seprate from the universe.

Ship likely has some kind of living or Force-imbued component. Holocrons require the Force to activate and interact with, and there have been, IIRC, several examples of Holocrons/their gatekeepers attacking or repelling a user who was unworthy of the knowledge or abilities they sought.

Plus the ancient Sith tend to have a crapload of artifacts that interact with the Force/darkside- talismans, crystals, etc. And, as has already been mentioned, the Rakata's technology required Force usage as well (which is why the loss of their Force ability led to the decline of their civilization).

yes, I agree what the Umbarans did had to be something far different from the ysalamari effect; characters it had effected had never felt anything like it before

the Rakata = good point, especially since the first ships the Sith used, in Adas's time, were acquired from the Rakata, so their 5000 BBY ships may be a combination of the tech of those ships as well as the ships the Dark Jedi came in
