Waco, TX The Star Wars, Draft One

I finished reading the first draft of George Lucas' 'The Star Wars' and have to say that I'm really glad that's not what was made. Although I think it would be neat if someone made a cartoon out of it or something. It was really cool seeing some of the dialogue and some of the scenes remain intact, or at least somewhat familiar.

 

Wasn't Cleigg Lars a rebel agent and Owen and Beru lived in the trees in Kashyyk?

I think that he wrote about 4 or 5 drafts before he ended up with what we saw.

 

Owen and Beru were paleontologists on Yavin, which was much more like Kashyyk than the Yavin we knew. There was a Clieg, but he wasn't Lars. He was Whitsun. He wasn't just a rebel agent, but also a Jedi. Annikin Starkiller, the sun of Kane Starkiller, is also a padawan. Both Annikin and Deak (brothers) were training to become Jedis, like their father, who was only human in the head and one arm, his right arm. Deak was killed on the fourth moon of Utapau by a Knight of the Sith, more than likely a sith named Valorum. General Darth Vader wasn't mechanical and seemed more like Grand Moff Tarkin. Grande Mouf Tarkin is a holy man in this draft. Stardestroyers are more like TIE fighters, but two man ships. Wookiees are actually Wookees. Han Solo is a green alien with gills. Chewbacca is a wookee, but has no real affiliation with Solo. Luke Skywalker is an old general/jedi in his late 70s, more than likely. Princess Leia is the daughter of King Kayos and Queen Breha. She has two brothers, Biggs and Windom (Windy). Threepio is still Threepio, but Artwo is 3 legged and talks. A lot of their dialogue remains intact, but none of Artwo's words are said, only beeped. Alderaan is not Leia's homeworld. Alderaan is the capitol city of the empire, and resembles Bespin. The compactor scene is there, but slightly altered. There are pilots named Mace and Chewie (not to be confused with Chewbacca) who attack the space station (later known as the Death Star.) The space station attacks early in the draft, attacking the planet of Aquilae, homeworld of Leia and later known as Tatooine. Aquilae is more like earth, rather than a desert world, although there is a lot of desert. There is an emporer, but it's not Palpatine. Crispin Hooedack is the commander of the space station. The attack on the space station remains mostly intact, with some changes. There's a Babs character, who I believe becomes Jek Porkins. I think that Chewie becomes Wedge. Wookees have an ability to learn piloting, but are a forest creature who are mostly simple. The wookees help Skywalker and co. take over an imperial outpost on Yavin and then fly to the space station and blow it up. Chewbacca was the only one to receive a medal.

Lot of interesting stuff. If you're interested, check it out. It's pretty long, but it makes for some good fun. I'm going to read draft 2 before long, just to see how much has changed from the first two drafts. Draft 4 is supposed to be the movie we see, with one other draft (3) being the transition.
