I have to say, I am re-reading the original Thrawn Trilogy for the first time in 20 years, and although Zahn has a number of annoying tics, his minimal, straight-forward, character driven style is miles ahead of what passes for sff/f writing these days, from the ponderous pretensions of Patrick Rothtfuss (a truly odious gas bag, like Dennis McKiernan in a MFA program)to plotless 1200 page self-indulgent mock-literary post-modern cinder-block-tomes, to the video-game level drivel that PYR publishes. I'll take a little lip-twisting over that crap any ole day Anyway, let the games continue!!
Yes, I know. 20. Every time Thrawn outsmarts another character (prepare for falling-down drunkenness).
21. Every time Mara demonstrates a talent. Can we do a Michael Stackpole one? I feel like you'd be hammered if you were to drink every time a character say's "Sithspawn!", or mentions the Katana fleet
22. Every time someone says something "dryly" 23. Every time someone "counters." 24. Every time someone says "Point." after someone makes a point. This is fun!
That reminds me of a video that compiles all the uses of the word "death" or "dying" in Slayer's discography. Surprisingly many. Megadeth racked up quite a few as well.
I think I know what I'm doing next time I'm bored. Perhaps I should gather some of my geeky friends and have a dramatic reading.
