[image=http://www.classickidstv.co.uk/transformers/logo.jpg] In this thread we discuss the Transformers from the orginal cartoon series in the 80's, Beast Wars, Armada, Energon, and even the live action movie coming out. I have to say I loved the original series and own the first two seasons on DVD. Still working to get the rest of them. I of course bought the action figures and such though many have broken over the years. My favorite Transformer is Soundwave. He was frickin awesome. He had Ravage, Rumble, Lazerbeak, Frenzy and others inside him! How cool was that! He was also the spy. A great role to play. He had a great voice provided by Frank Welker too. [image=http://www.seibertron.com/images/cartoon/01/01/Soundwave196-01.jpg] [image=http://www.seibertron.com/images/cartoon/01/01/Soundwave200-01.jpg] Since I hear Steven Spielberg is going to be the executive producer for the live action movie, I really expect alot from this film. Too bad Soundwave can't be a tap recorder. But it's understandable. Even if they changed him into a cd player (which he'll probably still have), he'd look ridiculous shrinking down into one.
as a kid i whatch transformers everyday - didnt like ti when megatron was killed off and octomus prime was killed too - theses new ones arent the same . i liked soundwave and ravage
Transformers the movie, one of the most trumatic moment of my childhood when Prime dies, but now whenever I watch it again all I can think of is Boogie Nights. The new transformers suck, Optimus Prime is a truck not a fire engine thats Inferno. [image=http://members.wri.com/jeffb/transformers/ScoponokScorpion.jpg] SCOPONOK PWNZ JOO ALL!!!111!!!!!one!!!11
The original series and Beast Wars are the only ones worth mentioning. I tried Maserforce once it had some interesting concepts but I got bored with it pretty quickly.
I hated Rodimus Prime. I have never seen the Transformers movie. I keep telling myself to buy or rent it, but I never get around to it. I always wondered how a Transformer-sized gun could turn into a much larger giant robot like megatron; a little scale probelm there. But whatever, it worked, Megatron rules. It was funny, I always wondered how strong Transformers were, then in one episode Prime throws and OIL TANKER at megatron. That's Superman strength. Can't wait for the new movie.
Oh wow I had that one as a kid. Nice to see a pic of it again. I loved Transformers, and had loads of them during my childhood. Unfortunately they were sold before I really became aware of the fact that they'd be worth keeping. So when the re-release of Generation One happened, I snapped them up. So I have Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Hotrod and Starscream lined up on one of my shelves and that brings warm feelings to my heart.
My parents made me sell of of my star wars stuff when i was 12 or so. Then a few years later realised how stupid they were to do that. They still have all my transformers in a box with my scorponok W00T. I'm moving in with my GF in 2 weeks so she might get a suprise when my parents come up with a large box of my stuff. Just remembered that I lost Scoponoks headmaster . . mmm might have to check ebay or something. Clicky for a page with loads of old toy pics (where I got the scorponok one from)
Ahh - my kind of thread. I used to love that cartoon. Still have all my toys. Don't like what they did with them though. The originals are the only ones I understand, not all these colourful redesigns. And maybe it would be an iPod Shuffle that soundwave would transform into nowadays...
Metroplex was teh greatest Transformer ever [image=http://members.wri.com/jeffb/transformers/Metroplex.jpg] He was the transforming Autobot city and was well hard [image=http://transformers2.no.sapo.pt/wallpaper/g1/metroplex2_1024x768.jpg]
So have I, or at least a box in my parents garage still has him Aaahhh the memories of Metroplex v Scorponok as a child. But on terms of name alone I think Slag is teh pimpest [image=http://www.cobraislandtoys.com/tf/1985/slag2.jpg]
The first Transformer I got was Sunstreaker. After that, I fell heavy into Transformers for about 2 years. It helped fill the hole left by Star Wars. By the time 'Transformers the music video, er movie' came out, I was just about through with toys (For the time being). It was a great run though. Sideswipe was my favorite Autobot. Soundwave was my favorite Decipticon. Transformers has splinterted off into so many sub-categories I've lost count, but none of it looks all that great IMO. I hope the movie is in the mold of the classic Transformers. I'm actually really excited about it.
I've still got Scorponok somewhere, but I too lost his Headmaster I've still got all the parts of Superion, though [image=http://www.tfracetrack.com/images/superion_scrambled.jpg]
Was just looking on ebay and you can bid for his headmaster its at £4.20 at the moment. I never had a whole team, unfortunatly but I could make my own by cobbling various teams together.
I had (or rather, have, at my dad's house) all of Menasor... [image=http://www.tfracetrack.com/collection/decepticons/menasor_scrambled.jpg] ... but, rather annoyingly, my Motormaster came with two left hands.
Generation 1 animated and comic versions of the Transformers would shrink down in size to blend in more with the real world. That's why Megatron could be held by Starscream or Soundwave. Why Reflector, Soundwave and Blaster would blend in actual items rather than stick out like a sore thumb. I used to have a whole bunch. Bumblebee-Who lost his head and legs after a time. Windcharger Sideswipe-Who I lost. Megatron-I busted him up real good. Powerdasher-Jet version, though I have little recollection of how I got him. Topspin Shrapnel Kickback Goldbug Sub-Maurader Landmine Chromedome Punch/Counterpunch Bombshell Fastlane & Cloudraker Power Master Optimus Prime Needlenose Landfill Classic Pretender Bumblebee Classic Pretender Jazz Galvatron Quickswitch Classic Pretender Grimlock Classic Pretender Starscream Action Master Rad Action Master Treadshot Action Master Shockwave Action Master Blaster Action Master Devestator Action Master Inferno Four groups of Micromasters. Two Autobot and two Decepticon
I remember seeing one Transformer that I never got hold of. It was when I was about 10 (1990) and I saw this reasonably large red and white jet plane Transformer (bigger than Starscream). I cannot remember whether it was an Autobot or a Decepticon... I have no other information. Anyone care to hazard a guess?
>> I always wondered how a Transformer-sized gun could turn into a much larger giant robot like megatron<< "mass-shifting" or some such is the explaination. Definitely looking forward to the live action movie. (Spielberg budget + Michael Bay + vehicles of any kind = glorious carnage). Glad they're sticking to Generation 1 as well. Grimlock owns you.
Jetfire/Skyfire. The name difference is due to a lawsuit over the character design that Hasbro and the Japanese manufactuer had with another company. The toy was named Jetfire and the cartoon had him as Skyfire. Anyway, according to the animated series, he was netural and was friends with Starscream. They were separated and when he was found on Earth, in season one, Starscream tried to get him to join up as a Decepticon. But Jet/Skyfire had issues with the Decepticon way, so he joined the Autobots. I was always disappointed that I couldn't get Hot Rod, Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Cyclonus, Scourge, Kup, Blaster, Shockwave, Soundwave, the Dinobots, Starscream and a few others. I had to settle for the Action Master versions or the Classic Pretender design. Incidently, I did like that Classic Pretender Bumblebee's design. It was much better than the original design.
And just to add - in the Marvel comics series, Jetfire was originally created by Shockwave while he was in charge of the Decepticons on Earth. As per an ongoing plot point, true life could only be given to a transformer via the creation matrix, which was - at that point - contained within the mind of the Autobot's human ally, Buster Witwicky. Buster was able to foil Shockwave's plans and bestow life upon Jetfire, who went on to join the ranks of the Autobots. And, as Sin posted his list, this is mine (just off the top of my head - they are still all stored round at my dad's house. All G1 of course): Jazz Smokescreen Mirage Metroplex Brawn Bumblebee Cliffjumper Cosmos Outback Warpath Ultra Magnus Kup Hot Rod Wheelie Beachcomber Huffer Powerglide Gears Springer Outback Sludge Blades Starscream Glavatron Cyclonus Kickback Motormaster Breakdown Dead End Drag Strip Wild Rider (and, therefore, Menasor) Brawl Runamuck Skalor And a few other I can picture, but cannot name. There were quite a lot of toys that were never available here in the UK - at least, not officially as I recall. The Constructicons, Deluxe Insecticons spring to mind...
Just in case you don't know, Powerdasher was one of the rare mail order Transformers. I recall getting him at Showbiz Pizza, which is now known as Chucky Cheese. He came in three different types. Jet, car and drill vehicle.
Transformers that brings back great memories of playing out back with my toys and watching the show. ~PK~
