    The Two Towers Protest

    [face_laugh]

I think these people have to realize the book was written and named 50 years ago.

Edit: Oh yeah, this was my favorite part of it:

We believe that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema's actions are in fact hate speech. The movie is intentionally being named The Two Towers in order to capitalize on the tragedy of September 11. Clearly, you cannot deny the fact that this falls under hate speech. We believe that if they will not willingly change the name, the government should step in to stop the movie's production or to force a name change.

Yep. Sorry, but this is old news.

They do know though that is the name of the book:

Don't you think that renaming the movie would tarnish JRR Tolkien's works of art?

No, we do not believe this. Many of our members are actually fans of JRR Tolkien's books, and we think that if Peter Jackson stepped in to rename the movie, it would increase, not decrease, the good things that JRR Tolkien's works have done.

    Those people are insane!
It's not like Jackson and company said "Hmm, let's make money off of 9/11."
There are too many stupid people in the world. Wow! I'm at a loss for words.
I wonder what they'd like the movie to be called.

We believe that the events that took place on Sept 11th 2001 gave America a chance for greater sensitivity. This is something that many people believe has been missing for a long time in the United States. The Spiderman movie which was released in 2002 had the images of the two towers removed from the movie. This sentiment was greatly appreciated by the Two Towers Protest Organization. We would like to see this kind of sentiment put towards the renaming of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" to something which would be more appropriate considering the events which transpired on Sept 11th 2001. The name of this movie will undoubtedly cause a return of the emotions felt on Sept 11th which left so many people in the nation feeling stunned and in a state of shock.

Errr... the day was a tragedy, but I don't see how the release of a movie would ever make people feel like it was 9/11 all over again... ?[face_plain]

And considering it is after the fact... it didn't.

People are just way over sensitive about the terrorist attack. It was a bad thing but not everyone is out to make money from the attack.

Yep. Sorry, but this is old news.

I know. :( It's been sitting in my Favorite Places for months, but I just found it again tonight. Sorry it's redundant. :)

I wonder what they'd like the movie to be called.

The Lord of The Rings: The Adventure of Frodo!

Errr... the day was a tragedy, but I don't see how the release of a movie would ever make people feel like it was 9/11 all over again...

Exactly. And how would going to see TTT remind them of 9/11? It's The Two Towers, not The Twin Towers.

Exactly. There were/are plenty of people out there trying to cash in on 9/11, but Peter Jackson is not one of them.

The Two Towsers was written half a century ago and has nothiing to do with 9/11. The movie retains the name of the book. Period.

why don't we just change the emergeny number from 911 to someting else because it reminds us of the date......because it would be silly and overreacting, these people are being oversensitive about this.

I fail to see how a story about a fantasy world full of strange beings in a strange world in which the "Two Towers" are actually symbols of evil is an attempt to capatalize on a national tragedy.

Stupidity reigns supreme. The only thing anyone can count on.

What is wrong with some people? Do some people always have to find something to argue/disagree/protest against? This is pretty absurd.

    You do?

I think they're actually a legitimate organization. They have petitions and everything.

I'd love for this to be a joke (though if it was, I think that's sick), and every time I've heard/seen it mention, there are always questions of it being a joke, but I've never seen anything concrete that proved it was a joke. I checked out snopes.com and came up with nothing.

I've seen about 10,000 times the people that think it's real than the people that think it's a joke.

Where did you hear it was a joke?

Although, I wouldn't be surprised if it was...that banner makes ROFL every time I look at it.

Until I saw this it never even occurred to me that "The Two Towers" could have any relation to September 11. I mean, sorry, but when I hear the phrase "The Two Towers" it's just not something that comes to mind. If these people are thinking about it so constantly that the name of the movie actually brings it to mind, the terrorists have already won. The real goal now is to move on with life, show them that they can't effect us, not let Osama get the last laugh because not only did he kill a bunch of people, he also changed the name of a major motion picture, based on a major book. I mean, what're they going to to next, rename the book?! Geeze... the stupidity. I think these people need to get a life or something... move on...

EDIT: And if it's a joke... well... it's kind of amusing I guess... but still pretty stupid. If it's not a joke, it's the kind of thing that makes me want to go shoot people for stupidity. :p ;)

NOTE: The "shoot people for stupidity" should be understood to be a completely joking statement with exaggeration for effect... not any actual sentiment... please don't call the FBI... [face_plain] :p

Exactly. If we let ourselves dwell on it forever, it's only going to show them that they won. If people involved see that sight, it will make them happy. Knowing that people could go to such lengths as petition in our legal system to change things like this is awful.
