I checked the first 10 pages of the board and I checked the thread index and didn't see a thread for this. So here we go. The series premire was tonight and I thought it was pretty good. It's great to see Dennis Haysbert again, and he does good in this new show. I think it's pretty interesting and something worth following. This is the place to talk about the new show known as The Unit!!!

THE UNIT is an action drama that follows a covert team of Special Forces operatives as they risk their lives on undercover missions around the globe, while their families maintain the home front, protecting their husbands' secrets. Jonas Blane (Dennis Haysbert) leads the Unit on missions out in the field and is responsible for taking new recruit Bob Brown (Scott Foley) under his wing. The Unit includes Jonas, Colonel Tom Ryan (Robert Patrick), Mack Gerhardt (Max Martini), Charles Grey (Michael Irby), Hector Williams (Demore Barnes) and Bob Brown, all highly skilled, trustworthy, brave and dependable soldiers whose ability to rely on each other is what creates their brotherhood. Jonas' wife, Molly (Regina Taylor), is the base matriarch who comforts and counsels the other wives as they cope with the fear and uncertainty they experience when their husbands leave home. Molly and Tiffy Gerhardt (Abby Brammell), a wife hiding her own dark secrets, help Bob's pregnant wife, Kim (Audrey Marie Anderson), acclimate to the stress of her new secret life.

The action parts of the show were great, but the family parts were very melodramatic.

I thought it was pretty good, though my brain still thinks Dennis Haysbert is David Palmer. I hope the new show lasts awhile.

    Give it 8 episodes.

Nothing origanal to get veiwers to love it. Great shows need great ideas. Exceot the Hospital ones. Evry network except on has one. House, ER, Greys Anatomy(sp?), Scrubs. Any way, nothing to get my attention other than the explosions, those were made to wake me up, serously I fell asleep. And I wasnt one bit tired. So its what I call a flop. Its a remake of the movie SWAT made into a TV show.

Anyways for me I reccomend no one to go out of their way to actually watch this unless you really need to sleep but cant.

P>S I know I was a bit mean but I spoke the truth.

Yeah, i watched the first five minutes of it before my stepdad changed the channel. He said it wasn't realistic enough to be interesting. *shrugs*

I thought it was okay, but it reminded me of The Firm with the wives smothering the new woman with kindness to disguise the fact that they are taking control of her life.

I liked it, I mean it had Dennis Haysbert in it, Robert Patrick and its created by Shawn Ran, the same man behind the Shield and David Mamet. I hope it lasts.

Scary how Haysbert has a gun in the bedroom, and gets freaked out by a mirror.

The gun was in the holster which he had not taken off. And he wasn't freaked out by the mirror, he was freaked out by that monkey toy repeating that arabic phrase he'd just said.

But he did see his reflection in the mirror after and it looked like he was freaked out by it.

he was freaked out by the fact that he can't turn off his security mode and feel safe in his own house - that his first instinct was to pull his gun and shoot at whatever was moving - which was his own reflection in a mirror that wasn't there (new mirror remember) the last time he was home.

so i watched it - it was ok. i'm a little disturbed by this thought: a show that makes americans comfortable with having the military co-opting civilian law enforcement duties on US soil. hopefully they will deal with this issue more if the show develops, as some of their missions may need to be on US soil.

i thought the wives' part are important (a bit melodramatic though, as someone mentioned) - otherwise it would just be a big action show. at least they are trying to get a more accurate view of what it is like to be a spouse of a special forces soldier rather than the "we have to keep our loved ones in the dark about our secret identity" stuff that is commonly done (Alias, etc.)

i wonder where they got a mule that can play dead on command.

I just can't see the Allstate Guy as a Special Forces Soldier. About every other line of his I would say, "That's Allstate's Stand."

I really didn't like the situation about the plane. It just seemed to fake. I hope they have missions that seem more special forces like.

Really? See, the first thing I ever SAW him in was the 1990 movie "Navy SEALS", with Michael Biehn and Charlie Sheen.

For awhile, the only thing i COULD see him as was a Special Forces Soldier! (Then i watched "Major League". After that, he will always be Pedro Cerrano :p )

Agreed. It was weird seeing Haysbert in a role so different from that of David Palmer. It will definitely take some getting used to, but I will give the show a chance since Im a huge fan of his, as well as Robert Patrick and series creator Shawn Ryan. The first episode was okay but nothing unbelievable, but Im willing to give a chance due to everyone involved.

Oh, and in an interesting sidenote, The Unit scored the highest premiere ratings of any new series this season with over 18.5 million viewers.

...I finally got around to watching the first ep, last night (taped it).

I liked it. Yeah, the wives-portion was a bit overdone, but the military/action side was pretty neat.

Show seemed to fly by, though. I couldn't believe how quick it went (which probably means i liked it :p )
