Quite surprised that there was not a vehicle thread for Andor in existence as Season 1 gave us a few cool new designs including one of the greatest ships to grace the GFFA - The Fondor Haulcraft. Anyway, in Season 2 the trailer reveals Cassian piloting a variant of TIE apparently not seen before. Some are speculating on where the design has been borrowed from, it's certainly different but there's only so much you can do with a pilot/engine tub and some solar panels. One thing that did strike me about it is that it seems seriously underpowered in the offensive armaments. It has a batch of missiles, which we are informed, went out with the Clone Wars and the blaster bolts, although rapid, seem rather puny. Maybe it's not a prototype but a museum piece?
It would seem Andor is a... Spoiler: Role ..."test pilot"... ...at that point. Which suggests the TIE is not a museum piece.
It appears to based off the TIE Avenger from legends. It appears to have two gatling laser cannons on the sides of the body, that's probably what we're seeing. Since when?
@Tuskin38 1, Based off. Sources are saying that it is. Of course ,none of this makes sense as it is too early for the idea of that type of craft to be mooted. 2, A higher rate of fire with a less powerful blaster bolt? The logical progression over the normal TIE's blasters would be more power or the same power but with a more rapid discharge. The cannon in case here would get more shots on target but (as witnessed in the trailer) not as much impact. 3, During the making of Attack of the Clones, GL said something along the lines of we will see why there are no rockets and missiles in the OT.
Interesting thing about the new TIE... Spoiler Roken's transport from Kenobi...does not necessarily mean Roken of the Hidden Path will show...could just be re-using an asset... Sorry about quality on this one...
It's a Jabiim JT-731 Broadhorn Transport, built by the Corellian Engineering Corporation, I doubt the Hidden Path are it's only users.
What about the ship in the middle of Saws X-Wings taken off? Some transport of some kind. I bet we get a new shuttle for the series.
I get the sense that this is intended to be a very "standard" ship, like the moded Chevy Impala at the start of Drive. I do like that Andor generally keeps the Rogue One tendancy towards very angular industrial designs, the corps carry/transport comes to mind.
