With all the new planet information, this seems to be a good time to compile all that info together. I'll divide this into three categories: already visited planets, new major planets, and new minor planets. For the old planets, I won't include geography or anything that's already been seen, and just focus on the new stuff. And I'm including Alderaan in new planets, since I don't count a cloud of expanding superheated rock to be a good indicator of what it will be like in ROTS. Also, this isn't supposed to be an extensive survey, just a general summary of the major features and events of each planet.

    Old Planets:

    Coruscant

Notable Facts: Site of a major space battle and the "end of the Clone Wars" (officially, although the fighting continues for a little while afterwards). During the battle, flaming wreckage hurtles from space and is extinguished by fire ships. Site of the Jedi Temple and Republic capital, and therefore all major events related to the Jedi or Republic/Empire.

    Naboo

Notable Facts: Unknown, besides what we know already and that it will be in ROTS.

    Tatooine

Notable Facts: Home of Owen and Beru Lars, where Obi-Wan takes Luke before going into exile near the Jundland Wastes.

    New Planets - Major

    Mustafar

    Geography: Rocks and lava.

Notable Facts: The site of the duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan, where Anakin gets his injuries that require him to wear the Vader suit. Where the Separatist leaders gather and are contacted by Sidious. A site of mineral mining and processing.

    Utapau

    Native species: Utapaun.

Geography: Sinkholes and canyons, in a landscape of grassy fields studded with unusual rock outcroppings. The cities are built into the wall of the sinkholes. The main city is in a sinkhole two miles wide and five miles deep, with a grotto at the bottom where nos monsters live. Windy.

Notable Facts: Home of administrator Tion Medon. The Utapauns are "helpful aliens". Site of a hidden Separatist presence and a major battle. Where Obi-Wan pursues and fights Grievous.

    Kashyyyk

    Native species: Wookiee.

Geography: Tall trees, with cities built into and around them. Mountains and lagoons.

Notable Facts: Site of a battle where Yoda is present. Home of Chewbacca and Tarfful.

    Alderaan

    Native species: Human.

Geography: Unknown. If Ralph McQuarrie's concepts are anything to go by, grassy plains.

Notable facts: Home of Bail Organa, and later Leia Organa. Architecture reminiscent of Tantive IV, an Alderaanian ship.

    New Planets - Minor:

    Felucia

    Geography: A fungus world.

Notable facts: Where Aayla Secura and Commander Bly go to capture Shu Mai. Aayla contacts the Jedi Temple and files a report from here.

One last category for a planet that may or may not still exist - the OS isn't clear.

    Hypothetical:

    not Cato Neimodia

Geography: Strange rock formations and arches.

Notable facts: Well, see for yourself. It was Cato Neimodia, home of the Neimodian species. Whether that means it's still a homeworld of the Neimodians but not called Cato Neimodia, or it's just somewhere where some Neimodians happen to live, or it's not even a Neimodian home anymore, or if it isn't even in the movie, is unclear.

Excellent thread, especially after the last Webdoc.

I have a feeling ROTS might have the best locations of all the SW films.

I'm looking forward especially to Kashyyyk and Utapau.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I want to say that Alderaanian architecture is predominantly white, although that could just be some McQuarrie concept art from way back.

Part of the "problem" with having the Wookiees and Kashyyyk is that it's going to make Endor and the Ewoks even less cool. Hmm...Chewie is at both battles!

Anyway, I hope they're different enough that ROTJ doesn't seem tired and old in comparison.

How could anything possibly make the Ewoks 'less' cool? I thought they were already at the bottom of the list...

yeah, but what I'm saying is now it will be even worse. As a stand alone environment, it's pretty much at the bottom of the SW ladder - but now contrasted against what it COULD have been with Kashyyyk and the Wookiees, it's going to seem even worse.

Of course, it will still have the speeder bikes, which was one of my favourite things in the OT.

    Wrong!!

Gungans are definetely at the bottom of the list, followed by whatever Greedo is, than Nemodians . . .

    Ewoks are ballz-out warriors

Are there eight total planets in ROTS, or eight new planets, in addition to what we've seen?

BTW, you might want to put a spoiler warning on this thread title. I haven't seen Lucasfilm mention Felucia anywhere in connection with ROTS.

    Tattooine
    Coruscant
    Naboo
    Kashyyyk
    Alderaan
    Utapau
    Mustafar

I'd rather not have Felucia, especially if it's just got some random Jedi that I've never heard of going to file some report.

Just deductive reasoning from NS info. The planet Aayla's on in ROTS is a fungus world that starts with "F". The planet Aayla's going to in RoF is a fungus world called Felucia.

    Lord_Hydronium,

Isn't the Tantive IV a Corellian Corevette and therefore of Corellian design and architecture? It just happens to be the consular ship of the Alderaanian Senator to the Galactic Senate. At least that is how I remember it. Otherwise, good update!

Where on the official site or in the Star Wars Insider can that information be found?

    Fungus world: Post Notes.

Starts with "F": Amy Allen's Hyperspace chat.

In the EU, yes, but it's been called the Alderaan cruiser in some of the HS stuff, and I'm pretty sure some OS feature said that it was based on Alderaan architecture, but I don't remember where.

Yes, very good compilation indeed. I can't believe how many planets this is, and there's still more we don't know about.

Padme has the babies on a brand new planet. I wonder if that will serve as its only function... at least we know the purpose of that one, if not its name.

Not to be a stickler, but is that official? By which I mean, has Lucasfilm itself announced this? That's a big piece of information to be giving away on a non-spoiler board.

Yeah, it's official, from the Hyperspace Q&A Dropbox I believe:

New planet in the latest Post Notes:

    Saleucami

Geography: Bulbous plantlife on the plains, and magma tunnels beneath the surface.

Notable facts: The site of a Separatist siege. Oppo Rancisis and Stass Allie are on the planet.

More info on it in Republic 74-77, an arc titled "The Siege of Saleucami". Unknown how much of the material in those comics is from ROTS, and how much is original EU. I left what I'm assuming is completely EU stuff, like the Morgukai, Sora Bulq, and Quinlan Vos out of the description, but whatever info is available on that can be found in the summaries for these issues (on the OS and Dark Horse's website).

According to one of the HS chats (Rick McCallum, maybe?), no.

Addendum to Saleucami: The battle has ended just before we see it in ROTS (presumably in Republic 77).

Because Quinlan is apparently heavily involved with this planet... it seems quite likely that he is the EU character in ROTS. He's been a key player in the entire Republic series.

But it's just crazy how they drop names on us like this. No fanfare, no big announcement... just casually mention it in an article. :p

Quinlan? Really, you think? I haven't been enjoying his story line too much in the comics. I enjoy it more when they focus on the film characters. But you're right, they have been focusing on him a lot.

I wonder if they'd cast the same scrawny dirtbag from TPM to play him. I still find that connection to TPM a stretch.

As far as I know, it isn't a real connection. They just liked the look of that extra and decided to use it for an EU character they were developing.

The latest AoR seems to be a good reason to add one to the list. I'm basing all the description off the concept art, so some of this may be a misinterpretation or have been changed since the concept art was done.

    Mygeeto

Geography: Crystalline. Ice plains, with crystal spikes jutting from them.

Notable Facts: Inhabited by dangerous crystal worms, tubular grub-like animals that live beneath the ice and can burst from below to catch a poor Jedi unawares.

    And an addendum to Mustafar:

Native species: Mustafarian, presumably. Described as wiry, and visible in the teaser. They gather ores from the lava flows on harvesting platforms.

So that's 10 that have been officially confirmed... and I'm not counting Cato Nemoidia because that's still a rumor as far as I know.

    1. Coruscant
    2. Naboo
    3. Tatooine
    4. Mustafar
    5. Utapau
    6. Kashyyyk**
    7. Alderaan
    8. Felucia*
    9. Saleucami*
    10. Mygeeto*

There are supposed to be 12, and as far as we know that's remained constant. Four of those are Clone Wars planets we just get a glimpse of... I've starred those, the 4th is probably Kashyyyk, but it could be one of the remaining two.

One of those two is the planet Padmé supposedly gives birth on. As for the last... is it Cato Nemoidia? Possibly (but unlikely) Degobah? Another unknown?

Pablo has also said at one point that two planets had been merged into one, making the count 11, but he's also said the number was fluctuating.

Kashyyyk I doubt is just a glimpse - it has Yoda, has gotten several features (concept art, documentaries, etc.) to itself, and that BTH we've gotten suggests at least a small subplot.

Dagobah's been confirmed not to be in it.
