In your opinion, what was the greatest threat to the galaxy? The Force-Resistant Yuuzhan Vong, or Darth Sidious and his evil Empire? Reading the interviews in the back of The Unifying Force inspired this question. I'll appreciate the replies and look forward to your opinions.

The Yuuzhan Vong. At least Sidious was happy to rule people and not just kill all of them.

easy sidious won, the vong didnt.

    Sidious destroyed the jedi
the Vong merely turned em into a band of darksiders

    Sidious took over the republic
    the Vong took over coruscant.

and in sheer body count id say that sidious was responsible for more deaths than the vong.

between the sun crusher, the death stars, the BDZs

and Sidious also was responsible for the deaths of more better trained jedi than the vong.. (didnt the vong only take out like 200 tops, 1/2 of that # died at geonosis alone)

Sidious. He ultimately planned nothing less than the total enslavement of the galaxy to basically feed off their presence in the Force for himself and his dark-side elite, and came much closer to his goal than the Vong ever did.

If the New Republic had lost the Battle of Borleias or the Battle of Mon Calamari, the Yuuzhan Vong would have won. If the Rebel Alliance had lost the Battle of Yavin or the Battle of Endor, the Empire would have won. Sounds pretty equal to me. Only the Yuuzhan Vong were far more dangerous adversaries than Imperial stormtroopers.

That was his arguably insane clone. We don't have any evidence that Pre-Endor Palpatine planned for such a thing.

The Vong were obviously the greater threat. One plans to exterminate humanity, the other to glorify it. There's little comparison between the two.

The Vong, they wanted to completly destroy Galacic civilization as we know it, killing trillion upon trillions in the process.

Palpatine (still cant call his Sidious) just wanted to control it and shape it in his vision, the point im making is that you would still be alive and not have a thud bug eating into the bag of your neck just because you own a 3P0 unit.

the Yuuzhan Vong. The Emperor wanted and got control of the galaxy, but he was content to rule over it with an iron fist. He wanted total power, he got it. For most people (humans anyway) especially those on the outer rim, their lives didn't change all that much, other than more rules and stormtroopers everywhere. Tattooine for example...looked like the people were no worse off then when the Republic was in charge. The Vong on the other hand, didn't want to just be in control, they wanted to kill everything in the galaxy, so they could replace it with their own stuff. The Emperor was certainly evil, but at least he didn't want to exterminate all native life in the galaxy. After all, an Emperor with no Empire to rule is useless. The Vong simply wanted everything in the galaxy that was alive to be dead.

The Galaxy: a really really big apartment building.
Emperor: wanted to be the terrible landlord so he could oppress the tenants that were there.
Yuuzhan Vong: wanted to kill all the tenants in the building so they could move in.

killing is worse than merely oppressing. The Vong win.

Yuuzhan Vong. The body count alone makes it clear.

Sidious, but not because of any idiotic things introduced by DE. The guy brought down a long-lasting democracy pretty much by himself and orchestrated one of the most devastating wars ever. He promoted and funded war criminals plus he had the freakin' Chosen One under his control. He allowed anarchy whenever it suited him and brutally put down dissent when it did not. The galaxy had already deteriorated rapidly under only 18 years of him as Emperor. The Yuuzhan Vong were an outside force-- the galaxy could more easily focus its efforts. Palps was the center of the government.

    Palpatine, by far.

The Yuuzhan Vong are clowns compared to him.

The Vong. They wanted to kill everyone. By brute force and technology that didn't make or understand. Brainwashed are dangerous.

Palps wanted to rule everyone. He was the more dangerous. A snake charmer, a devil. He was a genius, and single handedly decided the fates of countless trillions upon his whim. Not from desperation, or even contempt, but because he COULD...

Lucky for the galaxy, there be Skywalkers.

I've always seen the Vong as the (slightly) greater threat but not as evil as Palps and the Empire on a whole. I mean, sure they were genocidal, but it was partially misunderstaning. I'm still not done with the NJO, but from what I've heard not all Vong are "evil." Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

I guess it all depends on what you define "threat to the galaxy" as. I picked the Vong, because I was defining "threat to the galaxy" as anything that poses danger to the galaxy itself, and not just the well being of any habitants. Habitants were certainly included, but they were only part of the story. Under Palps, planets not named Alderaan pretty much weren't blown up. The overall shape of the galaxy remained intact, while the Vong interfered with that, by blowing up Sernpidal, etc and terraforming planets they seized for their purposes over the life already there. (kind of like the military application of the Genesis device from that other popular Sci Fi universe that I won't mention, because I don't know if its allowed here, lol) Since the Vong present a greater threat to everything in the galaxy, lifeforms, planets, all of it, I think they are more dangerous.

If we define "threat to the galaxy" in a more limited way, Palpatine changed the political nature of the galaxy more. The Vong ultimately failed in their attempt to change the galaxy to suite their needs, while Palps technically did change it to suit his. Palps just had a more limited notion as to what his needs were. Since Palps was more successful within his goals than the Vong were, from that standpoint, he would appear to be the more dangerous.

Both, Sidious and the Vong wanted to shape the galaxy into something they believed it should be. Both were willing to kill as many beings as would have been necessary.

Palpatine was more dangerous, because he was more sucessful than the Vong. He managed to cause large parts of the Population to support him on this cause.

The Galactic Emperor, for all the reasons outlined above. Palpatine I managed to rule the entire galaxy, something that the Vong never attained. For a long time, the only resistence to his reign was a small and ill-equipped band with no hope of success. His creation also managed to last longer and pose more of a threat to its opponents, as it stayed alive in the hearts and minds (for reasons of both loyalty but also greed) whereas the Vong invasion was repulsed in fairly short order.

The greatest threat to the inhabitants of the galaxy was probably the Yuuzhan Vong, because Sidious simply didnt care enough about the little people to bother killing them.
The greatest threat to galactic government was Sidious - he completely destroyed the Democratic government of the time, whereas the Vong never managed to fully suppress and defeat the NR/GFFA

The Vong. I mean c'mon, they forced the Luke and the Jedi to rethink their whole jedi code. Sure, Sidious was able to wipe out most of the Jedi but that was more due to the faults of the Jedi than to the caniving genius of Sidious. The Jedi were so arrogant when they thought that they could sense the Sith whenever, where-ever. Also, there were way fewer Jedi when the Vong attacked than when Sidious started his whole scheme, so the Vong posed a greater threat to end the jedi once and for all. Being immune to force also helps a little. And finally, if you look at what it took to bring these two down. It took two Jedi to bring Sidious down (Luke and more importantly his father) whereas Shimrra had to face Luke, Jacen, Jaina and one big living planet. I'd take my chances against Vader and Luke.

Id say the Vong cos of their whole jihad on the galaxy thing, but if it turns out that Sidious kills K'Kruhk then he wins by a mile

Didn't Luke defeat Shimmra on his own in single combat? Whereas it took Vader backstabbing Palps to bring him down

Actually Shimrra beat Luke's ass down, but Shimrra, being a dumb villain, took too much time to gloat and not enough to finish him off and Luke took advantage of that to take Anakin's lightsaber and slice Shimrra's head off.

My thoughts exactly. Palpatine stayed in power on Coruscant for twenty-five to thirty years.

    The Vong? Two years.

And even then, their World Brain had an identity crisis and freaked out. Result? A homeworld the Vong can't even control, a thud-bug-brained Warmaster who leads his entire army and navy into a trap in the Deep Core, and a leader who is being controlled by a malformed court jester.

Darth Sidious, however, has complete control over everything... except the will of the Force, as he learns the hard way while admiring the architecture at the bottom of the second Death Star's reactor shaft.
