I don’t know if it could be called a good performance. Ray Stevenson usually just plays Ray Stevenson. In this he played Ray Stevenson in a cloak. In the past he’s played Ray Stevenson with a beard, and my personal favourite Ray Stevenson with a sword and sandals

Chopper is a great name. A little bit demeaning. It seems designed to deprive the droid of its dignity. But it's good writing to let people know that rampant anti-droidism has survived the fall of the empire. It adds complexity.

Considering he tried numerous times to kill Ezra without any remorse (not to mention wanting to blow up TIE fighters that had Force-sensitive babies in them) I think a little loss of dignity is hardly a grave offence.

ok so this is the problem I was warned about: literally everything on screen in the first two episodes references Rebels in some way? It's just a flat out unrepentant sequel to a cartoon show.

I guess I owe everyone who likes this show an apology. I thought that it was going to make an effort to be entertaining to people who don't do the cartoon show. But it's clearly intended for the cartoon audience and no one else. I think it's a bold and risky choice, but I can respect it. I'm just not interested. I will bow out of the show as gracefully as possible (too late!)

Filoni did say that it was basically Rebels Season 5

I didn't watch Rebels, nor have I ever listened to anything Filoni has to say. This inattention to detail has worked well for me relative to other Star Wars, but it's definitely not working here.

As the Mandalorian was made for people who don't know anything about Star Wars to easily access the story, Ahsoka is made for people who have invested in Filoni's previous work and characters.

    The cinematography was completely antisemitic.

I just think it’s great that we’ve gone from “we can’t even look like we are referencing anything except the OT or nobody will understand this.” to “Sure let’s predicate the entire premise of this big budget TV series on the idea that everyone is intimately familiar with all four seasons of a poorly animated cartoon.”

It’s glorious is what it is.

    Lothal looked great.
The visual effects so far have been pretty good, shame that the same effort wasn't put in for the character designs

Good call! I gotta warn you, though! The pacing was completely off. The dialogue was sparse and simplistic. I am very smart. The abuse of the "Volume" was very evident. I use scare quotes so you can imagine me sneering. The CGI was poor and used in all the wrong places. I know a lot about movies. The marketing campaign was misguided. Like, who asked for this? It will remind you why Filoni was George's chosen heir. I call George Lucas "George" because he's my father. This is just more money-grabbing garbage from Disney. Bob Iger scares me. I hate movies so much.

Other than that, it's exactly what we as fans wanted. It's delightful! It's pure Kurosawa. It's 100% Sergio Leone. It's like all the movies George liked as a kid. It would make Spielberg cry. I've never seen a Kurosawa movie in my life. Filoni delivers the goods. Star Wars is back, baby! I hate streaming so much. Best series ever! I hate movies so much. I hate fans so much.

you don't have to explain. I get it. This is only designed to be entertaining for people who have spent what is it 4? seasons on Rebels. It's functioning flawlessly according to its intended design: I really was not entertained at all.

I'll be honest, the only thing I care about is whether I want to watch it or not.
And that's why I come here, to listen to what everyone has to say, and, armed with an informed opinion, can make a reasonable guess as to whether I'll find it enjoyable. That's the best part of this site!

As a fan of Rebels, the show "Ahsoka" doesn't feel like Rebels.

    Ahsoka:
First, we got a serious Ahsoka in Mando S2. That version of her worked for the episode. Then we got a kind of jokey/fun version of her in BoBF, and again, I felt it worked for the episode. Now for her series, we're back to serious Ahsoka and she really isn't fun to watch. I didn't like her interactions with any of the characters. The only sequence I liked was when she jumped out the window in the 2nd episode. Rosario Dawson is too stoic and doesn't bring the energy that Ashley Eckstein's voice brought to the character. Just because she was trained by Anakin doesn't mean she needs to act like Hayden Christensen.

    Hera:
Mary Elizabeth Winstead does an okay job. You somewhat get the matron-ness that her character had in the cartoon, but what is her character's purpose in the show? She's a General in the New Republic but there is no army or a scaled down one <shrug> so she's just free to freelance as needed aka whenever Ahsoka calls? Also, where's her son?

    Sabine:
The artsy and angsty member of cartoon show grew on me but only late in the last season when they actually did something interesting with her character, showing her ties to her family, and her need to be part of a new family aka the Ghost Crew. Natasha Liu Bordizzo does an okay job.

My favorite character is probably Huyang. I remember that he made a good quip that made me laugh. Ray Stevenson is compelling to watch but at this point he feel and acts like Qui-Gon if he aligned with Dooku. I do like Marrok, but I don't understand why there's an Inquisitor around when both Vader and Palpatine are dead at this point. Who's in charge?

If you aren't a Rebels fan and didn't enjoy Ahsoka, I don't blame you. As a Rebels fan, I also didn't get much enjoyment out of these first 2 episodes.

Sam Witwer is credited in the second episode as one of the "additional voices".
So of course the EU fans are now suggesting that Marrok is secretly Galen 'Starkiller' Marek from The Force Unleashed, or a new version of that character for the current continuity
