This is an appreciation and discussion thread on the awesome band, They Might be Giants. I just bought their new CD called The Spine on amazon.com today. I decided to make this thread after visiting

    http://www.homestarrunner.com/expfilm.html

It's TMBG newest song with a video by the brothers chaps!

TMBG is quite possibly one of the greatest things ever to happen to music. Take two total nerds from Brooklyn, give them talent and humor beyond measure, set the premise for most of their songs to the sound of an accordian, and make sure they first get signed on a punk label (Restless), and you have They Might Be Giants.

In 1991 at The Modjeska Theatre in Milwaukee Wisconsin, John Flansburgh called upon the crowd to, and I quote, "disregard the fire laws, and come on up and help us do The Famous Polka!"
As they started to jam The Famous Polka (available on Miscellaneous T: The B-side album), the crowd, myself included, flooded the aisles and the stage, and moshed like animals. There were way too many of us on the stage of course, and it collapsed, injuring 5 people, myself included. I broke 2 ribs, but I didn't require any serious hospitalization, even though both Johns came to the hospital and signed T-shirts and CD's and stuff. Very cool evening. I've seen them 3 times since then, five times total.

    Totally great band.

Advice: Build a little birdhouse in your soul.

    upping because:

2 things. I am definitely going to the concert on the 22nd, and I just had a weird TMBG related experience at CVS.

I was standing in line with my mom talking about the concert and some lady asked me who's concert I was going to. I told her They Might Be Giants and she said," You're making me feel really old. I've never heard of them."

I of course responded with, "Well, they've been around for about 25 years."

Her response: "Oh...could you list some songs off so I might remember them?"

So I start listing off songs, Ana ng, The sun is a mass of incondescent gas, and then the guy behind me steps in and says birdhouse in your soul. She still had no idea who they were.

Turns out, me and that guy will be seeing eachother again at the concert. That guy was cool. That lady wasn't.

They Might Be Giants is the first band that I actually really liked. Like listen-to-Flood-everyday-for-3-monthes-straight liked. Bless their crazy hearts. Birdhouse in Your Soul is still one of my all-time favorit songs. How's the new album?

Sadly, no. This upcomng concert will be the first TMBG one I've been to.

    How's the new album?
Spines, you mean? It is excellent. Homestarrunner.com has a video for Spine's single Experimental Film.

I just tried to link to it, and HSR appears to be down. I'll link to it later.
