Ahhhhh, i can't wait till the start of 2009. My life, quite literally, revolves around Warhammer.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II is the sequel for the award winning, Dawn of War series of RTS computer games. It is currently under development by Relic Entertainment and due for release in Spring 2009. The game uses the same Engine as used in Company of Heroes, a WWII RTS by Relic.

Dawn of War II will feature a non-linear interplanetary campaign, playable as any available race. And will depart from its predecessors in several key features:

[li]Less focus on base-building. This will be accomplished through use of mobile bases, such as the Blood Raven's Battle Barge.[/li]

[li]Consequences regarding mission choices. For example there may be multiple distress calls to answer, each available for a limited duration. During a mission you may have to choose between saving civilians or obtaining War Gear. [/li]

[li]Control of only five or six squads (unclear if these numbers apply to all races or just Space Marines). However, each squad will be highly unique in their combat specialty and even voice acting.[/li]

[li]Redesigned War Gear - War Gear can be obtained by accomplishing objectives during missions and is randomly dropped sometimes by enemies. After identification it can be equipped on squads, and stored in an RPG style inventory.[/li]

[li]Better cover bonuses, and a new emphasis on methods of dealing with units in cover (e.g. destroying cover with grenades or ignoring cover bonuses with flamers).[/li]

[li]Improved squad AI - for example, squads under fire will seek out cover.[/li]

[li]More realistically sized vehicles (i.e. larger than before).[/li]

[li]Squads will acquire experience and become stronger as the game is played, from a new recruit to a hardened veteran.[/li]
Confirmed races:
    [li]Space Marines[/li]
    [li]Orks[/li]
    [li]Eldar[/li]
    [li]Forth race: Chaos or Tyranids?pleasebe 'nids[face_batting][/li]

I'm a ridiculous Warhammer geek, but I probably will wait to buy DOWII if it doesn't include the Guard as a playable race.

I find it stupid how the designers are trying to "streamline" the RTS genre and make it more mainstream by removing all the tactical elements and basically turning this game into an RPG.

I used to play DoW at a near professional level and the direction this sequel is very upsetting.

Myself, I'm glad that there is less base-building. It sticks closer to the actual table top game it was born from.
