    Greetings, blokes.

Because I have a tendency to not pay close enough attention to my surroundings, I've missed out on some truly great film-going opportunities in the past few weeks. D'oh! No more, I say!

    Check it out.

Late on Saturday and Sunday nights this place is showing all kinds of groovy flicks. Here are the standouts:

    1) "2001: A Space Odyssey" - Wonderful flick that can practically double as a work of art.
    2) "Animal House" - No description needed, I presume.
    3) "Donnie Darko" - Any flick that has characters watching "Evil Dead" HAS to be good, right?
    4) "The Garbage Pail Kids Movie" - I forgot this thing even existed!
    5) "Clockwork Orange" - Another Kubrickian classic.

On top of all this, they're going to be showing "Gigantic" which I've been dying to see for quite some time.

I'm all excited now. I'm jacked that I managed to miss out on "The Story of Ricky," "Hedwig and Angry Inch," and "Terminator," though. Bah! Bah, I say!

    See you at the movies,
    Yours Truly

    Lets Go!

For Gigantic: Whats everyone/anyone doing on Sunday July 6th?? There is a 4:45 and a 7:15. We could also do dinner before or after . . . a few doors down from the Oaks is Casey's, a very reasonable priced (on par with eat-n-park prices) restaurant. OR on Monday July 7th at 7:30 PM they will be having a discussion after the movie.

    The other flicks:

    Anyone interested in going to

Bill & Ted on July 26th? (2 for 1 admission with donation of a children's book)

    Donnie Darko on Aug 2?

Clockwork Orange on Aug 24 (warning: Cedar Point trip conflict of dates)

I work until 6:00, so I might be able to go to the 7:30 show. I don't want plans to be made around me though if ben_ethus can't make it at that time.

    Greetings, blokes.

I'm currently stuck in the wilds of Allentown at the moment, as I drove a decidedly long distance to visit the folks/brother/sister/niece/nephews/etc for the 4th. (I haven't seen any of them since Christmas, so I figured I was due. :) )

Anyhoo, I'll be heading back to Da Burgh on Sunday sometime, though Monday may actually work better for me to hit up Gigantic. Any of you crazy kids want to set plans for the 7:30 Monday showing?

I'll check back on the boards each night to see if you guys are up for it. Though, if you don't actually see this message until Sunday or Monday, do me a favor and give me a jingle at home, and leave a message if I'm not around. (My number's in the SWAP directory.)

I'm actually not entirely certain when I'm coming back on Sunday, and I work till 4:00 on Monday so, yeah...

I could be totally down for meeting up for eats beforehand, too. When I get home from work, I'm usually pretty hungry.

So, how's this sound for an official proposal...

    -Gigantic on Monday, the 7th.
-Meet for food @ 5:30 or 6:00. (Potentially at place that greencat suggested.)
-After eating, catch the flick at 7:30.
(Those who can't make it for food, can just meet up at the flick.)

Sound good? Let me know ASAP!

Anyway, I'm glad that someone else expressed interest. I hate seeing movies alone. That's no fun.

    Should be in bed,
    Yours Truly

P.S. I've been awake for about 21 hours straight now, so forgive me if I'm rambling a little or am a touch incoherent.

sounds like a plan to me! How's 6:00 for the dinner meet time?

    See ya' Monday!
Hope you are enjoying (have enjoyed) your visit with your family!

Just got in from the viewing of Gigantic. An extremely fun filled evening. Entertaining film! Hope that a few more folks decide to go to the next 'Oakes Film Outing', although I did have a great time hanging out with ben_ethus!

Dinner was also a bit interesting. Just after we ordered, the lights went out. Dining in the dark (okay, by candlelight). Fortunately, the power came back on in time to show Gigantic. And a funny short film about an evil squirrel called Summer House.

Oh, and just as a matter of clarification . . . apparently it would have been more accurate to say Caseys is a few blocks down from the Oakes, rather than a few doors. Sorry, again, ben_ethus!

    Beaten by a measley three minutes!!! Curses! 8-}

    Greetings, blokes.

I just now got back from watching "Gigantic" with greencat, and here's my little Ben_Ethusian description of the evening intertwined with a review of the film.

    --------
    MY DAY
    --------
-I wake up at 5:45am to go to work.
    -I start working at 7:30am.
    -I eat lunch at 12:00pm.
    -I leave work at 4:00.
    -I get home roundabouts 5:00.
-I noodle around for a bit, and leave to meet up with greencat at Casey's by 6:00.

Unfortunately, I have no earthly idea where this restaurant actually is. All I have to go by is that its "a few doors down from the theater." So I park my car around the corner from the theater. And get out. And start walking.

I didn't recall driving past it on my way in, so it must be in the direction I had been going, right? Right! I walk. And walk. And walk. And walk. The freeway starts.

Errr... that's not good. Turn around.

And walk. And walk. And walk. And walk. Nothing. Hmmm.... Maybe it's across the street! Yeah, that's it!

So I walk across the street. And walk. And walk. And walk. And walk. Nada. Hmmm...

Maybe I need to go further up the block! Yeah! That's it! So I walk. And walk. And walk. And... lo and behold! There it is!

It's now exactly six o' clock, and I stroll in to the restaurant kinda hot, sweaty, and very, very thirsty. Chris is already there. We get seated. We get our menus. We order.

Then all the lights go out.

    We're plunged into near-absolute darkness.

Hmmm... Good thing we both ordered salads...

The waitresses scurry around and give everybody candles to eat by, so we enjoy our respective meals, chatting idly in the candlelight. We finish eating. And get the bill. And pay it. And get up to leave.

When the lights go back on...! Huzzah!

We then stroll down the street to the theater, purchase tickets, and sit down to enjoy the flick. Before the feature, they show a short film about a pesky squirrel harrassing some poor gent who rents a house. The director/writer/creator is actually in the theater with us, sitting in the back and chewing his fingernails off.

When the goofily enjoyable short ends, the actual movie starts. "Gigantic: A Tale of Two Johns." (John = Someone's Name... not a pair of toilets.)

Regardless, this is a documentary made about my absolute favoritest band in the whole wide world: They Might Be Giants. Granted, this review will be somewhat biased by that fact, but I'm inclined to say that anyone can enjoy this flick. Anyone. Even if you've never heard of the band before.

It's very informative, exceedingly funny, and it positively reeks of style and charm. Suffice to say that if you don't see it before you die, there will always be an empty feeling in the pit of your heart where the feelings of enjoyment you should have experienced while viewing this fine film would have resided. Do you really want to have that happen?

So, anyway, the movie ends, and they proceed to have a Q&A session with the director of the squirrely short about his flick, and then with the Curator of the Warhol museum (and her decidedly well-informed son) about "Gigantic."

I make a few comments, and ask a few questions. (During the Q&A, I determine I may be the 2nd biggest TMBG geek in the room, second to Curator's kid. I can't prove that, but it's the feeling I got.)

Oh yeah, they were giving out free donuts!!!

So, that stuff ends and it's time to go. I take my newly purchased "STOP ROCK MOVIE" poster into hand, along with my nifty little free "Gigantic" postcard and drive home.

At which point, I jump online and give the film free advertising by telling you good folks about it.

    So, anyway, that's about it.

Go see the movie as soon as you can,
    Yours Truly

    Greetings, blokes.

    Just a reminder...

This week (12th and 13th) they're showing David Lynch's decidedly twisted Blue Velvet at midnite on Saturday and 10pm on Sunday.

I'll probably end up going on Saturday since I have nothing better to do with my time, and I simply adore going to movies at midnite. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join!

You can never go home again,
    Yours Truly

so, anyone interested in going to see Bill & Ted on Saturday July 26, at midnight??

    July 26 "BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE"

    (1989, PG, 1hr 30min)
Archive print! 2-FOR-1 admission with children's book donation! "Matrix" star Keanu Reeves established his first typecasting prototype in the form of a clueless Van Halen-obsessed California high school student who embarks on a time traveling phone booth with which he can encounter various great historical figures in a beat-the-clock effort to pass class and avoid military school. Helmed by "Men in Black" and "Levity" screenwriter Ed Solomon, and co-starring George Carlin

    Greetings, blokes.

Greencat... I'll definitely be hitting up "Bill & Ted" unless my kidneys, brain, or heart end up exploding before then. No way I intend to miss this one.

    Be excellent to each other,
    Yours Truly

    Greetings, blokes.

Fluke... I'm all about meeting up for Animal House on Saturday night. What say meet out front of the theater roundabouts 11:40. Sound good?

Also, on a side note, I'll probably be bringing along some of my other cronies to take in the flick. Please feel free to bring along anyone that you know who wants to hit it up, too.

    Can't wait!

    Toga toga toga,
