I have no problem with the Star Wars movies, but one line of dialogue irritates me.
It's the line between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker outsider the Outlander Club. Why do OBi-Wan have to sound so different than he usually does.
Some people might say that he altered his voice because he was teaching Anakin a lesson. To me it just sounds silly.

Kenobi is just putting emphasis on the importance of keeping his lightsaber with him at all times. Plus we need to see Obi-Wan mentoring Anakin and Anakin complying with Kenobi's orders. I had no problem with the line. It's a very instructive and clearcut line.

I think I heard somewhere that that was a reshoot, and that he may have sounded weird cuz it was a fake beard, and I also heard that ILM did some stuff there to make him seem more like Alec. I dunno....some help here?

Obi-Wan could sound more like Alec Guiness but not in EPII. That's more fitting for EPIII because three years have elapsed and Obi is getting older.

I love that line, seems very "OT Obi-Wan" to me :)

One of my favorite lines in the movie. He begins to sound like old Ben Kenobi, or Qui Gon. Too bad he keeps losing his own!

Has anyone noticed that Obi is really uptight about the saber thing except during the speedeer chase:

He looks up, sees the saber flying towards him, grabs it, puts it down, and continues like that's an everyday thing. He didn't shake his head or anything; it was very mechanical.

I didn't notice any difference in Obi-wan's voice in that sentence.

I heard that Anakin lost his lightsaber a lot before AOTC. I think the reason it looked mechanical was because Obi-Wan was piloting the speeder and was used to Anakin doing something like that.

Obi-Wan was likely thinking, I'm going to have to lecture him AGAIN! :p

It's kind interesting to think about Obi-Wan's lecturing of Anakin's losing his lightsaber and juxtaposing that to the little bit from TPM that was cut that involved Obi-Wan having damaged his lightsaber and being unable to use it right away when he and Qui-Gon first get down to Naboo and regroup.

In addition to reinforcing the paternal relationship of the two (as mentioned above, OB1 emphasizes it b/c he had lost his in some sticky situations) - I also think it forshadows Anakin's casual attitude toward things and people.

"Oops, lost my saber - I can build another one..."
"D'oh, lost my arm - I can have them affix a stronger one..."
"Sigh, failed by another admiral, I can just kill him and promote a new one..."

To me Anakin seems to have missed the point of several key Jedi teachings, but in this case, he seems to have taken "attachment is forbidden" a little too seriously.

On the other hand, he loves to make things his own - sabers, droids, even starfighters. And with one person, Padme, he attaches himself strongly. Perhaps it was Qui-Gon's death and subsequent replacement by OB1 that started this conflicted view of possesion/transience, but it seems like a big part of his internal conflict.

    To me, anyway.

Well Obi-wan had first hand experience with losing his saber against Maul. And he knows that with out it a Jedi can be vulnerable. As others have said maybe Anakin has made a careless habit of losing it from time to time. Besides the cut line from AoTC was?

OBI-WAN: But, you haven't learned anything, Anakin.

OBI-WAN releases hold of the lightsaber.

    ANAKIN: I try, Master.

Not that it is canon or anything. But it does flush out the scene somewhat. It was cut from the theatrical version but is still in the one of the trailers.

I have not noticed him having a "casual attitude toward things and people". On the contrary, when he his lightsaber gets choped in half I recall him saying: "Not again! Obi-Wan's gonna kill me!" Plus, he is also strongly attached to his mom, and he says Obi-Wan is like his father. I think it is only when he turns to the Dark Side that his attitude toward people and human life in General becomes casual.

You would probably get shot and die.

Well not really shot and die you can use the force to jump and then use force push and bam. Aniway the reason why Obi Wan is so strict with Anakin is because well since Master Quigon said he was the chosen one and that he was very special...obi wan seems to be extremely strict with the boy so he can make that come true really Obi Wan has nothing agains Anakin except Obi is a very discipline Jedi and takes the lightsaber as serious as his own life....Like the Clone wars..the crystal the lightsaber and the jedi are combined and i guess obi takes it hard when a lightsaber is damaged. Anakin however is not a bad guy against other people in the contrary Obi was like a father to him and he was very friendly but when Padme the person that he secretly loved died everything turned into anger and he got clouded by the dark side. Turning into our favorite and loved Darth Vader

I don't see the problem. That line sounds fine to me. I'd think if anyone were to criticise any of the vocal performance of Obi-Wan in AOTC, they'd go for the few times when Ewan's accent slips through :p And even those are barely noticeable.

It's mainly when he shouts. He says, "Follow that speeder!" in a terribly Scottish way during that bit on the gunship.

It's really hard to shout in another accent. Really, try it. ;) I noticed it in a few specific words where he rolled his r's in that gutteral Scottish way (yeah, there's also the English rolling of r's like Tarkin does but that's very posh and different sounding). I doubt most people would notice it much, though, he did a nice job overall with the accent.

I didn't notice a difference but it is one of those lines that sticks in your head. Sometimes, it kind of feels like he's lecturing me when I hear that line. I also think it was because Obi was thinking, "Damn! Ten years I've had this kid with me and he still doesn't learn the basics!"

I'm sure somewhere deep in the archives there is a Jedi Manual where one of the rules is to keep your lightsaber with you at all times because it is the Jedi's main symbol.

I've heard many people say that he sounds just like OT Kenobi in that scene, but too me it does sound different and it does sound as if he's trying too hard. It's quite jarring. In every other scene he sounds what Kenobi would have sounded like had he been 20 plus years younger. With that one line, he just sounds like he's mimicing.
