This year's Super Bowl Roman Numeral notation: "XL" or "XXXX"?

I don't consider myself a football fan by any stretch. In fact, I hardly ever watch the Super Bowl, but I was thinking of this the other day. Both "XL" and "XXXX" indicate "forty". Do we know which one the National Football League is going with? "XL" would be such a cool marketing proposition, I think.

What do you'all think? XL or XXXX?

 

XL looks cooler.

 

I believe "XL" is more commenly used for 40.

Besides, now the announcers can call the Superbowl "Extra Large".

Totally agree, XL seems the best. The only reason I asked is because all of the references I have gone to indicate that both forms are accepted.

I think it's supposed to be standard for elementary school students to learn Roman Numerals. It is around here anyway.
