Saw this in the Marvel links provided in the Windu and Jango Comic threads and looked around a bit and didn't see an existing thread for it so here it is. Catch Up on All of Marvel's 'Star Wars' News from New York Comic Con 2023 | Marvel Kind of surprised it took this long but in other ways its very topical. STAR WARS: THRAWN - ALLIANCES #1 (OF 4) Written by TIMOTHY ZAHN & JODY HOUSER Art by ANDREA DI VITO & PAT OLLIFFE Cover by ROD REIS On Sale 1/24 Launching in January, STAR WARS: THRAWN - ALLIANCES will Zahn team up with writer Jody Houser and artists Andrea Di Vito and Pat Olliffe to bring his groundbreaking chapter of Thrawn’s saga to Marvel Comics! Witness the tactical prowess of the galaxy's most dangerous mind in action as Thrawn begins his legendary rise to power and forges a lasting and deadly partnership with Darth Vader.
It’s pretty surprising they’ll be able to cover the story in four issues. The first novel was adapted over six and I thought that worked well, hopefully this won’t feel too rushed.
They’ve got two artists I see, presumably that’ll give each timeline its own flavour. I’m interested in seeing how they visualise the Grysk, Commander Kimmund (underrated character imo) and potentially Che’ri if they bother to acknowledge her cameo.
Deep-set eyes and sort of angled eyebrow/ridges were described, but I think that was the sum total of how Zahn described their faces. I don’t recall any references to hair, or anything specific going on with their flesh. I’m hoping since he’s co-writing he takes notes from what the artists are doing and gets a bit more descriptive with them in his (presumably inevitable) future Ar’alani/Chiss trilogy.
My random guess is that Grysk in this comics will look somewhat like EU Noghri, stocky and muscular, in contrast to NU Canon's more agile Rukh.
My imagination somehow came up with them looking like Chris Gossett's mutated Massassi from the old Dark Lords of the Sith comic. Not sure why that's what I came up with, but there you go.
What description we get of Grysk does remind me of Nom Anor's skull like appearance, if less so the more orc/vampire look of other Vong.
The preview for issue 1 is up Spoiler Link Our first look at the Darshi! And a lovely look at Thrawn’s Chiss ship too: No grysks yet, though Twitter users were overly eager and mistook the Darshi for the grysks. I would’ve too.
Yeah, if memory serves, the book opens with Thrawn and Vader already called before Palpatine. That scene with Faro is new, which might imply we’ll get more “extra” material as the comic goes on.
