'Three Stooges' coming together at MGM

MGM and the Farrelly brothers are finally slapping together their high-profile cast for "The Three Stooges," a comedy project the filmmakers have been developing for years. Sean Penn is set to play Larry, and Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play Curly. Benicio del Toro is a rumored possibility for the brothers' taciturn leader, Moe.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly wrote the script, which Bobby has referenced as "Dumb, Dumber & Dumbest," and will produce with Bradley Thomas and Charlie Wessler. Earl and Robert Benjamin of C3 will executive produce.

This could be really good. Then again it might be really bad.

If Lucas had cast Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the 10 year old Anakin Skywalker, that decision would represent a more logical and reasoned casting choice than any of these guys as the Stooges.

If Jim Carrey gained a lot weight and shaved his head he'd make a perfect Curly, IMO

Is this a bio-pic (my first assumption) or some kind of weird update of The 3 Stooges?

I can't wait to see an obligatory remake of something that sucked in the first place.

He's been doing three stooges impressions since he was a kid. And from what I hear he is putting on weight for the role. I have complete faith he can pull it off.

I certainly hope so. But right now I'm just not getting a good feeling about it... we'll see I guess.

I honestly believe there isn't a characterization that Jim Carrey can't pull off. The only thing that throws me is the physical look...which he is working on.

If this is not a biopic... then no. Just no.

And I'm not getting Sean or Benicio's casting...at all.

Honestly, my first immediate thought when reading about this was - How much taller is Jim than the other two?

All the Stooges were fairly short.

I'm sure he can do a decent impression, right down to the limp that Jerome received as a kid from a hunting accident, but the height... Jim always seemed tall to me. Any idea on how tall he is?

Thats one of my concerns as well. I can't recall specifically how tall Jim is but he's around six and a half feet, but the thin lanky look doesn't help. Hopefully with some trick photography and weightgainer 3000 that will help.

ummm... the three stooges did not suck...

i can honestly see jim pulling off curly. heck, i could see him pulling any of the three honestly. dude is amazing at that kinda thing.

sean penn is kinda... really the odd one on this list to me. he's a good enough actor he could probably pull the role, but it's kinda a WTH kinda moment on that one.

ok. let me backtrack. del torio is the odd one out here. WTH?

One of these days, we will convince Peter Jackson remake Troll 2 and it will be a masterpiece of modern horror.

Sean Penn would be better off as Moe. He doesn't have the necessary sweetness for Larry.

Also, any reason they couldn't find three short Jewish guys for this movie?
