The rain fell heavily over the 20th ward. When one looked up at the inky black sky, the rain drops faded into view from the darkness. The sound, the pitter patter of rainfall, filled the man’s ears.

He loved the rain. It dulled his senses, yes. But there was a somber romance to it. It filled the man’s heart with feelings of guilt. Of his past, unresolved and weighing him down.

The body of a young woman in her twenties lay ahead of him. Her blood mingled with the water that formed in puddles in the alley. A narrow quiet place, where no one heard her screams in the dead of night.

The man’s breathing pattern was heavy. His instincts had taken control. The blood of the woman stained his mouth crimson. He licked his lips, before smirking quietly to himself.

    “How utterly delicious.”

He had known the girl well. That, perhaps, is what made this such a feast. His belly was filled, and he was left with a feeling of pure satisfaction.

He lifted his head into the air, and sniffed for a few moments. If his calculations were correct, the Night Steed would begin their second hunt this month very soon. A hunt that had captured the fascination of this man for quite some time now.

"Let's see if we can find you, Night Steed." he whispered to himself with a grin.

The intensity of this hunt would only leave the man satisfied for a few days. He would strike again soon, in the thrill of stalking his food. Devouring, and taking advantage of the peace of the 20th ward.

But unbeknownst to him, this death would cause ripples all over Tokyo. This is the song before the legendary Ken Kaneki. A ballad filled with death and loss. This was the unsung song. The tale of two ghouls.

This is where our story begins.

This is Tokyo Ghoul: The Unsung Song.

This game is set in the world of Tokyo Ghoul. A popular manga and anime set in Tokyo, in which humans live in fear of Ghouls. A species that looks identical to humans, but must eat them to survive.

This game is set two years before the beginning of the manga, acting as a prequel of sorts to the story. It will have one main character, but an opportunity for the rest of you to have guest roles.

Extensive knowledge of the anime/manga is not required to be a guest in the game, but some basic understanding would be appreciated. Any character type is acceptable, whether that be ghoul, dove, or a regular human.

Office Building A14, 20th ward, Tokyo

The man sighed heavily as he lifted himself from his seat and removed his gaze from the painful glow of his computer screen. It was the only source of light in a what was almost lifeless floor, save for him.

He had worked a grueling shift, and was finally able to return home. He rubbed his eyes, which gave a burning sensation when he closed them from weariness. Within a few minutes, he was outside the building in the silent streets surrounding it.

Better stop by Yoshi's place and grab a bite to eat for the fam. He thought to himself.

He turned and proceeded to trudge along the silent sidewalk, the night engulfing the path ahead of him. It creeped him out. He shrugged off his fear and continued, yawning and continuing to rub his eyes.

After half an hour, he slipped down an alleyway wedged between two more office buildings. He stopped, turning his head behind him to look.

I would have sworn I heard something... he wondered to himself as his heart-rate accelerated, he himself growing rather nervous.

There was a rumbling near a trash can, before a black cat slipped out and scuttled away.

Damnit... Shouldn't get so scared of things like that... After all, aren't my kind the hunters..?

He turned, before stopping again. There was something nearby. He knew it. A sickening feeling in his gut told himself so. He wasn't a fighting man, and he hadn't eaten recently. He was hungry and tired, and in no mood to fight.

It was above him that his troubles lied. A young woman known as Harada Sachiko had been trailing him ever since he left his office. She had caught his scent when he stopped at an ad agency and placed an advertisement.

He was a ghoul, and she knew what this meant.

The man would have no time tonight to grab a bite at Yoshi's.

The man would have no time tonight to return home. He had been chosen for judgement.

And so he would be judged.
