OK, there's probably already a thread for this, but anyway.

I think it's time we get geared up for TORCHWOOD.

On my way home today I saw an advert on a bus. It went by too fast for me to see it in detail but it appeared to have on it Capt. Jack and TORCHWOOD in large red letters alnog with COMING SOON.

Then tonight after Robin Hood they had a preview.

Looks good. You can already get the darker feel of it that'll make it sand apart from Doctor Who. The most interesting thing in the preview in my eyes though was what appeared to be a man in a Cyberman type exo-skeleton.

I must say that I am looking foreward to this.

    It better have Daleks :p

It does look good. But I'm a bit annoyed it's going to be on BBC3, which I can't get.
Jack Harkness is a good character, and this series offers a lot more action then Dr Who.

Dark is good. Angel was a superb spin-off from Buffy, and much much darker. Let's hope they can do the same here

This is true. As Buffy began to decline I did come to preffer ANGEL.

But in the last season of Buffy it did perk up a couple of times though I am still yet to see the final episode. And ANGEL got a bit weird with the whole "Cordelia getting it on with Connor" storyline was a bit "bleugh".

But it picked up again with some good episodes in the final season, especially the one where Angel is turned into a puppet. The bit where he beats up Spike is hilarious.

I just hope this series doesn't try to be Dr Who, it is different, so it should be different.
I worry it will try to live off the name of Dr Who.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but what exactly is the point of this show?

But we get 2 Dr Who based shows instead of 1. Is that not better?

The point of the show is 2-fold

    1) Money (as is the case with ALL TV shows)
    2) Give fans more Dr Who.

Money is ALWAYS the reason for making a show. It is a business. Nothing more, nothing less. But to make money, you need to get viewers. For most channels these days, it's reality TV shows. It makes a change for the BBC to realise the Dr Who shows get ratings, and therefore money.

It is more profitable for them to have 2 Dr Who shows running at the same time, than to have just one.

    Who? Capt. Jack's love intrest?

Or maybe I should say FEMALE love intrest. When I saw him at LFCC I asked John Barrowman whether he'd be snoggin David Tennant when he pops up in Doctor Who. He said probably not and there were somethings that were gonna remain strictly "Doctor Who territory" which would not be seen in TORCHWOOD and stuff that would be "TORCHWOOD territory" that we won't see in Doctor Who(or something very closely along those lines). I believe that kissing guys will come under "TORCHWOOD territory".

But also it means that TORCHWOOD is really striving to be seperate from Doctor Who and not be in it's shadow.

Interesting to have a bi-sexual hero, it's certainly different.

It looks like an early version of a Cyberman
Maybe it is an experimental version that Torchwood got wind of, and later a better version was created.

    Something like that.

I hope there aren't any Daleks in Torchwood. If it happened, they'd turn into the Borg, and be completely ruined.

hmmm... i wonder if they'll fall into the trap that befell the production team behind the xmen comics in the late 80's early nineties... ie,having the quality of thier product suffer due to spreading the concept over too many productions...?
like,do you really think that torchwood is going to make its money back from merchandising in the same way that doctor who is?
i don't think this new show is going to work... and i don't see why they're making it in the first place. they should have spent the time and money on maintaining the quality of the one doctor who series...

right i know they are doing the same sort of thing with star wars. but at least people in star wars have a history and there is alot you can do with it.

i am thinking that this is going to be a major let down. its like doing a series or film about a bond girl or villain! it just doesnt work because its BOND we want
