I'd heard the song before, but I only paid attention when I saw Steve Winwood perform it last week. Cross-dressing minors is a really weird thing to sing about. It's been driving me nuts ever since.

...not really. I still wanted to know what it means, though. The Wikipedia article doesn't help.

No, I don't know, Jim. Explain the song when you're sober, plz. Oh, wait. I know what the song means! It means "Me and Stevie got really high and wrote **** down." Thanks for nothing, Mr. Capaldi.

I like the song nonetheless and the rest of the lyrics make sense, but it's little wonder why I most enjoy fairly straightforward lyrics about heartbreak, unrequited love... unrequited love break... getting so drunk at a party that your girlfriend has to drive you home...

Jim Capaldi, considering his mental status, may not be the best authority on the subject, or any subject for that matter (except awesome drumming of course).

I honestly think it's just wordplay. It doesn't literally mean anything. It's like John Lennon used to say to Paul McCartney; "We don't know what it means, but we do know what it means".

I am the Walrus. Happiness is a Warm Gun. She Was Like A Bearded Rainbow...

Yes, the drugs and simply the sounds of the words running together (Paul Simon's a master at it) was what was paramount, not any literal interpretation behind the lyrics.

If you see something that looks like a star
And its shooting up out of the ground
And your head is spinning from a loud guitar
And you just cant escape from the sound
Dont worry too much, itll happen to you
We were children once, playing with toys
And the thing that youre hearing is only the sound of
The low spark of high-heeled boys

The percentage youre paying is too high priced
While youre living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit hes made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didnt make any noise
But it wasnt the bullet that laid him to rest was
The low spark of high-heeled boys

I don't think the lyrics are nonsensical, or at least not nearly as nonsensical as "SWLABR" or "I Am the Walrus." :p
