Lets discuss the portrayal of the Trandoshans in The Clone Wars so far.

I have actually been very satisfied with how they turned out. I am not too bothered by them speaking basic, because they were able to in Republic Commando as well.

Gha Nackt and Bossk both were Trandoshans, and yet were very distinct, showing that the species has room for variety beyond bounty hunter or slaver.

    Spoilers for Padawan Lost below
I really liked the portrayal of the Trando hunters in this episode. They had the tribal feel that had been explained and used in the EU, which was used to great effect. The honor that came from killing was also a nice touch for the lizards. I was a little annoyed at how the one son's voice didn't quite match up with the pitch of the hisses and shrieks, but it was a minor annoyance. Like their Republic Commando slavers, these guys were viciously good shots and marksmen.

If it weren't for their really annoying voices, I'd be OK with them speaking basic. Their voices just aren't intimidating enough, they felt cheesy to me, they need to be deeper, gruffer, more aggressive.
But I really liked the Velociraptor vibes with the snarling, roaring and snake-like hissing. And the appearance was nailed pretty well, Bossk from Season 2 looks significantly under-detailed compared to all these guys.

Like Fanboy said, the voice acting is a little off. Trandos voices should be hissing, but as it stands, they sound like they have laryngitis.

I'm actually relieved Bossk wasn't shoehorned in. For once, the galaxy doesn't shrink! And between these old-school hunt-crazed Trandos, gun-for-hire Bossk, and weaselly scavenger Gha Nakht, we have a different faced of their culture on display in each of their three appearances. That's a good thing.

And hey, potential background Trando models. Or stick their heads on a shorter model for the variant from the ANH cantina... it's like a free new background species.

Well, Gha Nackt seems to be from the subspecies of trandos that made up the berserkers from Republic Commando. But I would like to see that cantina subspecies too.

Saurin- trandos with humanlike hands:p they could replace weequays and ithorians as most usual background folk[face_laugh] Trandos were depicted pretty much i imagined they would be- voices were bit comical but yet big lizard men are just a bit comical anyway- something between seriously scary and bit funny at the same time- ritual was cool it felt so primitively aggressive- cool addition to TCW and EU-logic at the same time-

also surroudings of Wasskah were so Trandolike even in sneakpeekclip i guessed a long ago it would be Trandosha itself- but it was it's moon not too far away.... probably surface of Trandosha itself- hardly ever seen in EU.... has similar jungles there- perhaps plants are brought to moon to make it hunting ground.... anyway i liked the exotic look of the moon too.....pretty much i thought Trandosha would look like-

The episode featured many different looking Trando's so in season 4 I am expecting more aliens of the same species to look different. With how much they have improved character models too I expect a greater variety of species, along with more jedi next season.

At this point one of the things I'm looking forward to most in S4 is (sadly?) the crowd scenes, with more species diversity, as seen with these Trandos. I'm a sucker for even the scenes we've already seen, but I do have to admit to Weequay-fatigue. And Ithorians and Twi'leks, too...

D'oh, I forgot Fat Dead Trando from "Lightsaber Lost", the one who looked like Gha Nakht only symmetrical. Another more "assimilated" Trando in the underworld, I guess.

Wait, that short lizard-lookin' dude from the cantina in Ep. IV was a Trandoshan? Wasn't the junk dealer who sold R2-D2 to General Grievous in the Duel of the Droids duology of the same species? So was he Trandoshan too?

Little guy was a Saurin, a Trandoshan subspecies with more human digits.

Gha Nackht was officially a Trandoshan, but based on his appearance alone I think he would fall more into the Saurin category.

Bossk's mask was a redress of the Saurin from the Cantina, so that's where it all starts.

Somehow I never noticed how un-Trandoshan Gha's hands were, but he was always intended to be a Trando. Maybe the two species should be moved a little closer together...

Saurins are already near-trandoshan species/subspecies and Gha Nackht species was some kind of Trando as well there is million near-humans but for now only Trandos and Duros have also near-species..... some have more subspecies though like Bith or Gungan..... Orn Free Taa is also biologically interesting- since he has only 4 fingers in one hand but then 4 lekkus....

Thanks for the explanation! I don't know how everyone remembers all the characters' names from every episode!

Yeah, I've always been confused as to what that guy's species is supposed to be.

I have a pretty good name-memory if i say so myself:p .....I don't remember all names of course but most of them....

He is just Twi'lek and it's said they sometimes have extra lekkus that are considered good luck-symbols etc. but his fingers are really bit odd maybe it's the mutation of some kind causing those..... this of course brings up the old problem are Twi'leks who supposeldy are from Ryloth nearhumans or not- we don't need that debate again:p i think there is obvious genetic connection between humans and twi'leks(and they even interbreed) perhaps Togrutas are evolved from Twi'leks then..... but history of galaxy is so mystic anyway and those species have lived so long on Ryloth and Shili so yes they are their homeworlds.... but KOTOR suggests Wookiees aren't originally from Kashyyyk either.... and humans.... those guys are really mystic and there is damn many of them in GFFA.......

Anyway EU knows few other Twi'leks with 4 lekkus and four fingers in one hand.....so it's not unique mutation

Male Twileks have two large bumps on their foreheads. Older members like Orn Free Taa sprout secondary lekku from these in old age.

As for Gha Nachkt, he seems to look like one of the Trandoshan slavers.

I just type the relevant episode name into Wookieepedia and let the internet do the work for me.;):p

Orn Free Taa, what species art thou? The eternal mystery. I'm among those totally convinced he was designed to be a non-Twi'lek senator who had Twi'lek consorts; the TPM visual dictionary doesn't give him a species but describes his "lekku" as "ear flaps" which "store fat" (although it looks like he stores it other places, too).

Canonically he is definitely, irritatingly, a twi'lek now but I will never believe he was supposed to be one at first. And we have yet to see an even vaguely similar twi'lek in the films or TCW... they should've put some on Ryloth if they wanted to make it a little more plausible.

I could also swear that at least three species that were originally different are all Niktos now, but that way lies madness.

Niktos have plenty of subspecies really...... Orn Free has four lekkus and humanlike ears that look very tiny in his rather big head:p books have errors like neimoidian identification in ROTS-book- still they messed up neimoidian in AOTC who is still Gilramos Libkath for me..... but not that again:oops: .... and stubby and green trando also appears in this duology actually- there is many kind of trandos- Gha Nackht may even be child of two different trandos one stubby green and one tall and brown or something.....

I just obsess over Orn because that TPM Visual Dictionary was the first time he has defined at all... he has "ear flaps" but the twi'lek right next to him has "brain tails"... I just feel sure he was retconned to be a twi'lek, but it doesn't really matter because he is now.

I just found another interesting production detail about Bossk, though... not only is his head a redress of the ANH Saurin, but his outfit is a repaint of the same one worn by the guy in the cantina who points out Chewie to Obi-Wan. So we already saw almost all of Bossk in the cantina, except for his hands!

Yes, some of them were originally supposed to be Klatooinians, like Klaatu, but now they're supposedly some kind of Nikto. ( They're still Klatooinians to me. ) And whatever species Barada was supposed to be originally, he's now a Klatooinian.
