On Friday 5th November eight people were killed and dozens injured in a crowd surge at a music festival in Houston on Friday night, in what the city’s mayor called “a tragedy on many different levels”. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Sylvester Turner said the dead ranged in age from 14 to 27 The event was Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival. The rapper has since been sued (along with singer Drake). More lawsuits are expected as staff refused to stop the show because it was being streamed live on Apple Music.
I heard from eye witnesses on Reddit that people were trying to scream for Scott to stop the show for 75 minutes before he actually did. Yikes.
I hope they catch the drugged up maniac who caused this by injecting people with narcotics! The police are on the case. Don't ask for any evidence.
Drake is also being pulled into this, being accused of allegedly riling up the crowd after things started to go south.
9th death reported. Likely a 10th at least on the way with a 9 year old in a coma and seems to be brain dead. **** every single one of these fools. They killed 9 people and likely more and harmed how many others? I hope those that survived and the families of those who didn’t sue the ever loving **** out of Scott.
I can see the difference between this festival and the concerts I regularly attend, but as a regular concert goer this story has really hit me hard. How awful for people who should be going to enjoy an artist they are passionate about have it end like this. All the past incidents and even arrests of Scott. This should have and could have been avoided. You'd think having one of his fans permanently paralyzed would have taught him about compassion and crowd control. Nope it took even worse and I still don't know if he has compassion. I hope he's never allowed to play a show again, at the very least.
No I don’t think he does have compassion. You see that apology video he did? He couldn’t even fake cry.
He was apparently in the back of the crowd on his parent's shoulders. When the crowd began to jostle too much he fell off, and no one could reach him before he was trampled. Anyway, to make an obvious point: Crowds can be dangerous. It takes planning and expertise to make sure people can move safely and don't become trapped. Regardless of the type of event. Very sad that no one took the time here.
Apparently this event was billed as all ages and included face painting for kids. Knowing GA crowds when my kids want to go to concerts I paid up for VIP seating if I took them. It's expensive and I get that it would be way better for everyone to be able to enjoy the concert for GA pricing. But I didn't want my kid's getting in a crowd of adults and they wouldn't be able to see in such a crowd. People take kids to all kinds of events you'd never imagine. Heck I took one of mine to a Blink 182 show when he was a toddler, we were in the lawn and there were other people with children.
Kanye being a dick: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-60347062 Kanye West says he won't perform at Coachella unless fellow headliner Billie Eilish apologises to Travis Scott, after she appeared to mention his fatal Astroworld festival during a recent show. "I wait for people to be OK" before "I keep going", she said while trying to get an inhaler to someone in the crowd in Atlanta. Kanye has suggested this was aimed at Travis Scott's handling of a deadly crush at his Astroworld festival. Billie says she "never said a thing about Travis," adding, "was just helping a fan."
