ST Tropes: 5 man band and 5 bad band in Force Awakens

Obviously the OT is a good model for the 5 man band archetype. As each member corresponds to the basics i.e. hero: Luke, Lancer: Han, etc.

I talked to my friend about this and telling him this no longer applies to TFA and that they're doing something different. My friend disagrees and said TFA also follows the 5 man band trope and starts a 5 BAD band trope too. My friends states the following, but do you guys agree?

5 man band
Hero: Rey
Lancer: Finn
Big guy: still Chewie
kid appeal character: BB-8
sixth ranger: Poe
Supposedly Han and Maz keep trading off between Smart Guy and Mentor

5 bad band
The Big Bad: Snoke
The Dragon: Kylo Ren
The Evil Genius: Hux with Starkiller and all that
The Brute: FN-2199 aka TR-8R who likes to get his hands dirty
The Dark Chick: Phasma because she doesn't get her hands dirty like a brute would. Also because her most distinguish trait is that she's a women on the bad side.



Edit: Also Leia is still considered The Chick but is upgraded to The Big Good.

 

I just wanted to add to the above, Phasma is considered "the Dark Chick" because of her differentiating attitude when it comes to the First Order.
While Kylo Ren, Hux and the Stormtroopers are maniacal, megalomaniacs and fanatics. She is more stoic in demeanor. One of the few traits the film gives her.

 

Are tropes that well known that you can start with "obviously"?

I think you should have some paragraphs explaining the categories, or at the very least, a link to tvtropes before dropping the mic'.

I mostly know what you are talking about, and even to me, a Lancer is just a class of frigate that has no business being in a space fight.

No doubt once BDT, KMT and Laura Dern come in to the sequels, the tropes descriptions will change as well. Obviously Luke has taken Han's spot as the mentor.

 

Okay, well that is progress, and at least it shows that you are willing to take advice. I would have preferred you do explanations yourself, rather than requiring participants to go away and do homework.

An underlying message of my intervention is that you should not assume that just because you know something, that everyone else does too. Am I supposed to know who or what BDT and KMT are?
