Amazon is currently having a 4 for 3 sale and most of the Star Wars paperbacks seem to qualify. So, looking to get into some of the EU novels I figured Id start post-ROTJ. From the FAQ, I gather that Truce at Bakura is a decent place to start. Then, I hear good things about The Thrawn Trilogy so I was gonna go with those afterwards. I know that Courtship of Leia is in there too but I assumed its OK to maybe skip that one.

The FAQ, while very helpful doesnt neccessarily list them right out in the exact order. Its more of a guideline or whatever.

Are the 4 books I chose a good start? Thanks! :)

It certainly isn't a terrible way to start. Though "Truce" has it's detractors and limitations.

IMHO, Courtship of Princess Leia is the best EU novel ever written...you can skip it for the Thrawn Trilogy...that's acceptable...but I wouldn't venture much further into the EU without reading it.

Also in this "window" of time would be the bulk of the X-wing series...a triumph, all.

Also, the very recently released "Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor"...which has many folks around here very excited.

I'd recommend visiting this thread if you have any more questions on what to read or other "beginning" questions.

Good Luck to you...you've taken your first step into a larger world. =D=

I always use Amazon to get cheap Bantam paperbacks I missed before they were taken off the shelves in the UK. I'm really enjoying the X-wing series and I'm up to Iron Fist. Also I bought Crystal Star last week for a penny to see what the fuss was about-and yes, it really was the worst Star Wars novel I have ever read!

Truce is good place to start since it takes place the next day after ROTJ. Also me personaly I would go buy TCoPL before I read TTT. That is one of the best EU books that is out there I think.

If you're buying stuff on the cheap the Tales books are recommended, it of a grab-bag but there's bound to be a set of stories you'll like a lot in each.

Other stuff worth getting cheaply is Jedi Academy Trilogy. If only so you are fully armed when you get to I, Jedi and read a different take.

TTT is a great place to start; a little slow moving at times, but overall very good. And if Thrawn isn't the single most badass villain in all of SW, he's pretty kriffing close.

Seconded. Personally, I read I, Jedi before I read the JAT, and was surprised to find out that Stackpole did a better job with the Kun plot than Anderson did.

Of course, that was the first thing I'd read by KJA, or else I would have expected Stackpole's to be better.

I read JAT before I, Jedi, and liked Stackpole's rendition better anyways.

I think TAB/TTT is a great place to start. Usually I recommend TTT first when introducing people to SW books, because they do a great job of capturing the spirit of Star Wars. But if you intend to run through most/all of the Star Wars books rather than experiment to see if you like them, then I would recommend starting with TAB and going mostly chronologically, meaning Truce at Bakura, Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor, The Courtship of Princess Leia, Tatooine Ghost or starting the TTT. Although I personally don't care for Tatooine Ghost.
