This question has plagued me for quite sometime. And I guess as the final chapter has been closed and many loose ends have been resolved, I am finally compelled to actively search for an answer to the only mystery (as trivial as it is) that has baffled me throughout the two trilogies and series of books. As soon as i saw the Pod Race scene in Episode I at opening night, i have forever wondered how it is possible the the Tusken Raiders perched high in the cliffs above the Pod Race course could target and successfully hit a couple of the speeding pods with their rifles in a terroristic and mischevious manner. Yet in Episode IV Ben Kenobi clearly states that the 'blast marks [on the Jawa Sandcrawler] are much too accurate for Sandpeople...'. Tusken Raiders can successfully sniper shoot speeding pods that are travelling upwards of multiple hundreds of miles per hour (or the Star Wars Universe equivalent), yet they could not have accurately shot at the Jawa's Sandcrawler?, A vehicle that is the size of a small office building and maybe moves 20-40 mph. Has anyone ever attemted to answer this inconsistency or come across an explanation from the Lucas people?

Perhaps that while they are great shooters, the blast points on the crawler indicated that more accurate weapons were used, more advanced ones.

Great observation, never thought of that before.

    Nice observation!

It also could have been a luck shot, afterall, see how many times the Tuskin Raiders attempt to shoot the pod racers, and how excited they are when they actually hit one.

Ben: "Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so percise"

Which opens a whole new can of worms, if they are so percise, why can't any of the stormtroopers in the OT shoot straight in any of the battles?

But are the Tuskens' guns "blasters"?

I kinda thought from looking at them they were more of a primitive rifle.

    I think Obi-Wan mean't that Tusken's aren't so accurate with BLASTERs.

hahah. i've never thought of that before.

those had to be the best tusken raiders ever. and the new generation around during A New Hope are just lazy no-good ruffians with no respect for the elder marksmen. and ben being an old man knows this.

The Tuskans weapon is a gaffi stick. Which is not even close to a blaster. They use projectile rifles to shoot at vehicles.

The Official Top Gun Tusken Raider Sharp Shooting School decided to hold a captured human female to lure in live targets. The rest is history...

The answer is simple, Anakin killed the sharpshooting tribe of Tuskens. All of them men, women, and children. When the other tribes found out about that they no longer aspired to be such great sharpshooters.

Or, in another thread about the precision of stormtroopers, it was said that Obi-Wan might have meant how accurately those blast points were placed on vital spots of the sandcrawler, disabling and damaging it far more effectively than more or less mindless Tusken Raiders could.

thanks Twilek Jedi, that's a good way to look at it...it's not a matter of the Sandpeople's accuracy with a rifle (whether it be blaster or projectile), perhaps its a matter of the Sandpeople would NOT BE SMART ENOUGH to know where to place their shots so precisely and effectively to disable a Jawa Sandcrawler....that's a great answer, can't believe i hadn't thought of that over all this time i've chewed on this dilema...just another example of taking dialogue to literal and not analyzing it at something other than face value
