    Here's TV Guide's latest half-assed attempt at a Top 50 list:

    1. Bugs Bunny
    2. Homer Simpson
    3. Rocky and Bullwinkle
    4. Beavis and Butt-head
    5. The Grinch
    6. Fred and Barney
    7. Angelica Pickles
    8. Charlie Brown and Snoopy
    9. SpongeBob SquarePants
    10. Cartman
    11. Bart and Lisa Simpson
    12. Fat Albert
    13. The Powerpuff Girls
    14. Daffy Duck
    15. Pikachu
    16. Gumby
    17. Betty Boop
    18. Top Cat
    19. Mickey Mouse
    20. Popeye
    21. Gerald McBoing-Boing
    22. Scooby-Doo
    23. Underdog
    24. Josie and the Pussycats
    25. Heckle and Jeckle
    26. Arthur
    27. Winnie the Pooh
    28. Felix the Cat
    29. Mr. Magoo
    30. George of the Jungle
    31. Ren and Stimpy
    32. Tom Terrific
    33. Tweety and Sylvester
    34. Bill
    35. Space Ghost
    36. Yogi Bear and Boo Boo
    37. Mighty Mouse
    38. Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner
    39. Superman
    40. Batman
    41. Daria
    42. Wonder Woman
    43. Donald Duck
    44. Alvin
    45. Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale
    46. Woody Woodpecker
    47. Porky Pig
    48. Bobby Hill
    49. Speed Racer
    50. Tom and Jerry

The top 2 are right on, but the rest of the list is a mess. How the hell can a lame character like Top Cat rank higher than Mickey Mouse? How come there are comic book characters ranked higher than Donald Duck? Why in the world are Tom and Jerry at the bottom? Where are Darkwing Duck, Shaggy and The Jetsons? I can go on and on....

It's a sad day when the likes of Woody Woodpecker, Porky Pig, and Tom & Jerry are at the bottom of a top 50 cartoon character list.

TV Guide's "Top 50" lists have been consistantly awful... i also agree with the first two being well placed, but am surprised by many of those omitted, and more surprised by some who made the list, considering they suck/ed, IMNSHO :D

I think Top Cat is a bit over-rated. It's good to see Underdog do so well, though.

I think "Bill" is that claymation guy from SNL (aka Mr Bill)?

If they're gonna put claymation on there, I would think Pokey would rank ahead of Mr. Bill.

The TV Guide website doesn't say anything about the characters, so it could be any Bill. I guess you'd have to buy the magazine to find out.

Maybe that should say "Top 50 Greatest American Cartoon Characters". There's a suspicious lack of any good Anime characters. :( EDIT: Actually, Pikachu is there [face_plain]

And no Smurfs, He-man, Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats, Dangermouse, Spider-man, or even Ninja Turtles?

Did these people just skip the 80s? And why the hell would a Rugrat break the top ten?

As a cartoon buff and afficinado, I find this list absolutely blasphemous. TV Guide should be branded for this crap. What the hell is Tom and Jerry doing at No. 50? I can tell they polled a bunch of kindergartners who don't know their boogers from their lunch for this list. I think they should have at least defined the word "cartoon" when they wrote this. Most of these arent even cartoons.

    15. Pikachu (WTF??????)
    16. Gumby (Not a cartoon. Was claymation)
    21. Gerald McBoing-Boing (Who the hell is that?)
    25. Heckle and Jeckle (The two crows? They suck)
    34. Bill (Bill who? Gumby's horse?)
    41. Daria (diarhea, cha-cha-cha)
    42. Wonder Woman (That's like saying Spiderman is a cartoon...whoops) ;)
    48. Bobby Hill (too stupid to be a cartoon)
    50. Tom and Jerry (Should be no lower than No. 3)

He appeared with Magoo, but he was created by Dr. Seuss for an animated short that won an Oscar.

EDIT: Never mind. They have him listed as "Fred and Barney".

That's two characters. They're not siamese twins. TV Guide can't count.
