So, I'm going to watch the first couple of episodes of this tonight & tomorrow. Looks Fringey. And who doesn't love twice the JK Simmons? https://www.starz.com/series/counterpart "Academy Award Winner J.K. Simmons plays Howard Silk, a cog of a Berlin-based United Nations spy agency. Howard is thrust into a shadow world of intrigue and danger, where the only man he can trust is "Prime". Anyone watching already? Also, speaking of Fringe, we just passed the 5th anniversary of the final episode on January 10.
I didn’t get past the first episode of Fringe, but Counterpart does look excellent. I’ll be watching, and hope this thread is still going in a few years time.
Fringe didn't begin to hit its stride until about midway through the first season. One it did though, it was a hell of a ride.
Hi JP. I was going to make a parody thread called "Is countertop the new Fridge?" But I didn't. You're welcome.
Not for another few months. This looks interesting! I hadn't heard anything about it, but I'll check it out. @Diggy - Japes is right that Fringe hit its stride late. For the first half-season or so it was a fine, but not noteworthy monster-of-the-week X-Files rip-off, but once they got into their big mythology arc it really got great and had some of the best acting I've ever seen on TV. Seasons 2-4 are superb. Then season 5 got weird again because they got kinda taken off guard by their renewal and had already wrapped up the big mythology arcs, so they had to do something else. But anyway, I recommend it!
I've just watched the first season. I thought it was really good, except it's another one of those shows that wants a second season so doesn't give you a decent ending. That aside, I thought the cast were excellent, especially J.K. Simmons. I hope the second season is as good.
I didn't think the second season was quite as strong as the first, but it was still good. Though JK Simmons was the strongest actor in the show (he could sell on you which version of his character you were seeing simply with the way he held himself), Harry (Viserys Targaryen) Lloyd showed he was a much stronger actor than I'd given him credit for being, and Nazanin Boniadi must be on the brink of stardom, she was just so good in the role of Clare Quayle.I see she's been cast in the new Lord of the Rings show. Probably for the best that the show ended here, I think it would have just dragged on otherwise. I think it's worth watching, if anyone's undecided.
