Does anyone know when, or if, the fan film Tydirium
    will be finished?

Likely, never. It's somewhat notorious as "vaporware" and there hasn't been a single update in years.

    Nice trailers, though.

Thanks for wasting threads about the exact same question every now and then. [face_dancing]

EDIT: There has been an update not long ago. They said they're done with shooting. I guess it's pretty much a question of time when it will be done. These guys have real jobs in the German film and TV industry and so it's a natural thing that they don't get to work on it everyday. They also said they don't want to waste their time on updating the project -- they'd rather work on the project itself. I personally expect it to be done within the next 12 months, actually.

EDIT 2: I should actually just give them a phone call and ask! Shall I?

EDIT 3: Just phoned Werner Walossek, one of the main creators of the film. I spoke to his mailbox -- maybe he calls me back. We'll see.

Okay, Werner just called me back. He's a really nice guy and he knows what he's talking about!

Here's a sum-up of what he said, interpreted by me:

They're doing it for the fun, not for a release-date, reviews, respect or anything. The way is the goal, so to speak. Over the course of so many years they've started to realize that many shots don't exactly match their current standards, anymore. Hence, a lot of work needed to be redone. They are in fact working on it everyday -- unless there's a giant project coming in that needs the professioal CGI work of their company which they founded, I guess, because of the giant impact the trailers had.

Werner and me shared some really interesting thoughts about the film business and the craft of making films, in general. He said that doing fanfilms is a great way to learn how to make films but having a (giant) fanfilm in your resume does not exactly make you look like a serious filmmaker. Maybe Tydirium made filmmaking look so very easy, for young filmmakers around the world. He says you shouldn't even start to think about making a half-way serious Star Wars fanfilm if you ARE not an expert in Visual Effects. Don't rely on anybody! You're all alone. The credits list of Tydirium may look like they're having a giant FX crew, but in fact there's really just a small core-group working on it, which is why it takes so long.

    Interesting facts:

    - because they know how long the FX still need work on, they've just started to build a giant, 100 square meter (350 square feet?) STAR DESTROYER SET which is going to help adding another layer to the characters.

    - the film went from a 5 minutes short to a 120 minutes feature-length movie.

    - they don't know when it will be done. At times, it looks like they could be done within the next three months, the next day it looks like it won't be finished within the next three years.

They don't seem to expect the film to have such great impact in public just like the prequel trilogy didn't. If there's such a mystery and hype surrounding a project it's no wonder if people are being disappointed when they see it. So, just DON'T WAIT FOR IT, guys. They don't even wait for it, themselves! They're simply doing it. They're not chasing a release date, they're simply doing it for the love of Star Wars.

Sounds like it will never be out. But really, there are so many old fan films, like Prelude to Hope 2, there still actually workin on em, and they will eventually be released. Better they take there time I suppose. Just not too long or they run into the problem of things becoming out of date within a year or so.

That's pretty cool that they got back to you, Ripley, and cool that it grew in scale that much.
