The UK Clone Wars Comic magazine has started a new feature - Clone Wars Infinities. The first premise is 'What If...Obi-Wan turned to the Dark Side?'

Here's their series of events (hidden for those who haven't read the issue yet):
Turning Point - Obi-Wan's meeting with the Duchess of Mandalore awakens buried feelings.
Rescue - as she tries to free Obi-Wan from the force field on Concordia, Satine is cut down by Pre Vizsla and the Death Watch while Obi-Wan watches.
Rage - as she dies she cuts the force field, freeing Obi-Wan
Betrayal - Obi-Wan goes rogue and sets about trying to end the war single-handed. Yoda senses his fall and is shaken to his core. He tells Mace, Anakin, and Ahsoka to take Obi-Wan down at any cost.

What happens next? (The readers are encouraged to write in.) Next issue will contain another Infinities twist.

Plotlines like that always make me feel like Lucas or the idea maker is an increadibly unloved individual. Why is it always love that brings people from good to evil in those overused plotlines? Why can't it be something else? Why can't Obi Wan come down with a horrible bought of gonoreia or skin cancer and turn to the dark side in bitterness, like regular people do when they reject Jesus when bad things happen?

Yeah, what she said, but still...dark Obi-Wan? This is going to be ****ing awesome.

I can't wait to see a light Anakin vs. dark Obi-Wan. And I wonder what role our beloved Supreme Chancellor will play in these events?[face_mischief]

Obi-Wan: Anakin, we meet again. When last we met, I was the master... and now I am still the master. :p

I'm not sure if the next issue will continue this premise or start a new one. This feature sounds like it might be a 'reader - finish the story' idea. I'll know better when the next issue is out.

Dude, that was probably the plotline of the next one. You know there's only so many ways they can have the main characters go dark... which, due to the fact TCW is so black-and-white anyway (at least so far), they're either going to have lightside characters go dark or darkside characters go light. Although the latter will likely not involve gonorrhea. I would hope. Because that would be um... unusual... for a story... any story...

I can confirm that it was, indeed, the plot of the next one. Weird Al was already hard at work on a parody song.

    A long, long time ago,
    in a galaxy far away....
    Obi contracted gonorrhea.
He had fresh tonic and some gin,
    to get his medication in,
but couldn't stop little Ani's laugh and jeer.
That response, it didn't thrill him,
he turned to evil and tried to kill him...

In, uh, "seriousness" though, SLG makes a good point. "Losing someone/thing they love" is really overused as a catalyst for turning someone to evil in SW, and pretty yawnworthy at this point. That said, I'm always happy to see them making use of the Infinities label whenever possible. We don't get anywhere enough of that stuff -- so "hoorays" where they're due.

    Hooray!

In addition to people turning to the dark because bad things happen to them, though, I'd like to throw in more "Harthian" (as in Set Harth) figures. Because Set Harth was awesome (and the best thing in Dynasty of Evil by a mile).

"Conquer the galaxy? Dude, that sounds like loads of work. I think I'm gonna go party and get plastered."

In short, people who turn to the dark side because it's more fun.

New issue is in, and a new Infinity:

What if a brain worm infected Cody?

Turning point: Cody acquires a brain worm on Geonosis

Control: Rex, Obi-Wan and Anakin all fall victim to the worms. The worms want to control rather than kill their hosts.

The Plan: The worms remain hidden until their ship gets back to Coruscant..where they use the Jedi and clones to infiltrate the Jedi Order, the clone barracks, and even Palpatine

Victorious? Only Ahsoka, Kit Fisto, and Barriss have the knowledge to beat them, but can they do it in time?

And the readers are invited to write in for What Happens Next...

Side question: Anyone know a good way to obtain issues of the UK mag inside the USA (other than ebay of course)?

Well, starting next month Titan will be printing a U.S. version of the magazine. There is speculation that it will reprint at least some of the U.K. content. Hopefully we'll get all the comics anyway.

As far as finding the U.K. issue here in the U.S. goes I'm not sure. Coincidentally I looked on ebay U.S. and U.K. earlier today and pickings were slim.

I've actually managed to track down most of Volume 6 of the Clone Wars UK magazine which contains the original comics. I'm only missing a few issues. I was just hoping there was an easier way than ebay.

Afraid not. I, too, had been looking for the UK mag. I contacted Titan Magazines. They could not give me a listing of retailers that stock the mag in the US. The magazine is not available to purchase online for overseas customers due to licensing laws. You can purchase by mail or by phone, however. PM me if you want that contact information.

New issue and the Infinities are back. The one for this issue: What if Boba Fett had killed Mace Windu?

Turning Point: After the failure to destroy Windu with the traps on the Endurance, Aurra Sing forces Boba to get personal and go against Mace one-on-one.
The Lure: Boba and Aurra take an entire Republic bridge crew hostage and lure Mace to a base on a nearby moon. Mace doesn't want to battle 'a child' but Boba gives him no choice.
Treachery: Aurra has rigged the base with explosives and detonates them when Boba appears to be losing. Mace is wounded and Boba gets an opening.
Endgame: Boba pulls the trigger and Aurra applauds.
Aftermath: The Senate puts a huge bounty on Boba's head. With the Jedi and Republic after him, he grows up fast - a perfect pupil of Sing's. He trains in anti-Jedi techniques, saying that no Jedi will ever take him like Mace took Jango. Then one day he gets a transmission from Darth Sidious..
What Happens Next: Can the Jedi hold on to order? What mission could Sidious have for Fett? That's the write-in for this one.

Just read the most recent infinities, it's an AU of Arc Troopers where Anakin fights Grievous and Obi-Wan takes Ventress. Grievous fights well, but he'r no match for Anakin, and ends up limbless and in custody. Obi-Wan beats Ventress, he cuts off her arm, and takes her captive with the ARC troopers. Both villains are taken back to the Temple, where the Jedi imprison and interrogate Grievous. Ventress is also imprisoned, but Obi-Wan may be able to redeem her. Now, with his left and right hands gone, Dooku is in a precarious position, and he heads to Dathomir to find a new apprentice. And we all know how well that goes.

I've also heard about another infinities involving Ventress killing Dooku and becoming a Sith Lord, does anyone know about that.

I think I heard about that one.
Its based on the Nightsister trilogy where instead of Savage, Mother Talzin uses their magic to make Ventress more powerful. She manages to kill Dooku and takes the name of Darth Vindcaa.

That one is in the UK issue 17 - Mar 2011. You might be able to get a backorder from the Titan UK website.
