Saga Understanding Chewbacca

Does anyone know what characters in the Star Wars saga understand Wookie, besides Han?

And am I the only one who finds it funny that no one ever replies to Chewbacca in Wookie but only in English? How come Han never answers in Wookie? Not even C-3PO who's fluent in millions of languages.Would it have been that hard for Ford to go Arghr rugh rugh woof woof awrggh!

Refusing to speak Wookie when addressing a Wookie is disrespectful, to say the least. And let's not get into the whole Chewbacca didn't get a medal at the end of ANH thing.

Chewbacca deserves respect. Just saying.

 

I suggest you watch the SW Holiday Special - then decide if you really want more of that beautiful language (Shyriiwook) to be featured in the SW films.

 

I once contemplated creating a thread entitled Favorite Chewbacca Quote where fans could cite their favorite wookie line from the saga in a series of barks and growls and/ or give the translation of either the other on-screen SW character or make up their own, but I never did.

This is a far better and funnier idea.

 

This brings me back to the days when I used to do improv comedy on stage. It was a game called "Dating Game" (based on the 70s game show) and the audience assigns each of us a character or a disorder, trait, etc. for the bachelorette to guess. I asked, "ok folks who am I?" One guy yells out Chewbacca and our host takes it. I spent each time answering my questions with "arrrggghhh arrrghghgh yarrragghhhhh." It was tough to be Chewie! lol

 

To be fair, Chewbacca understands English (or Galactic Basic) as well as anyone, so it doesn't really matter.

And Chewie never spoke to Han in English, so there's that.

 

Ah, but Han doesn't understand Chewie. Only Ashoka can .

 

Wookiee is not spelled like Cookie.

 

Any mention of Ashoka is strictly forbidden.

 

Don't Wookiees use parts of their throats that other species just don't have? Ergo it's literally impossible for Humans to imitate it

 

In the SW novel, Ben spoke Wookiee to Chewie in the cantina. And IIRC there was some comment about most humans being unable to reproduce the sounds needed to speak Wookiee.

 

Oh dear god, I can't imagine Alec Guiness going "GUUUHG BRGF HURG TCHGF"

 

That would be hilarious to hear.

 

How about the entire saga overdubbed in Wookiee and with English subtitles?

 

What if you attempt to speak to a Wookiee in his own language and accidentally insult him? Is it worth getting flattened?
