I've almost finished my Vader costume, but I have a problem with the upper armor slipping off my shoulders especially when I'm wearing the cape.

Any ideas on how to make a secure harness for the armor so it stays put?

The armor is the GT fiberglass version.

My friend Skip, who vacuum-formed his armor, attached his shoulder bells to the chest plate using some kind of string or something. I will let him know about this thread.

My father uses a system of nylon webbing and "parachute clips" I works great for his that he hand sculpted from plexi-glass/ fiberglass and some other stuff lol.

are talking about the armor falling forward off your chest?I attached velcro straps that go around the back of my neck.they are fairly snug and hold the armor in place.
also ,how is the cape attached?if it pulling the armor backward ?you might want to try sewing in some velcro to the inside of the cape, then put a few pcs of velcro on the armor itself.that may help secure the cape and armor in place better.

if those dont help email me some pics of what its doing, maybe i can help

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

The problem is mainly that the rather heavy cape is pulling the armor up and back, so there's a huge gap between the bottom of the armor and my chest. Looks kind of stupid.

The cape chain is attached to the small hook on the armor. The velcro-idea sounds good, I think I'll try that. Maybe some kind of strap that's attached to the back of the armor and goes around the chest could work too.

that must be a really heave cape!
ive never had that problem and my cape is huge.many many yards of really nice black material with a satin trim around the bottom.it took 2 yards of satin just for the trim.
are you wearing the cape over your shoulders exposing the shoulder bells?that could be why.it needs to come over the shoulders and drape down over the arms.most of the weight should then be sitting on the shoulders and not pulling back.
when your standing you should only be able to see down the front of the costume.

heres a pic of me walking in the xmas parade this past december.
you can see how big my cape is flapping in the wind.it was a nice effect.

Yeah it is quite heavy :) It does drape over the shoulders like yours does in the picture. No worries though, it seems to work fine with some velcro.

Cool pic BTW, do you have other Vader pictures? I love to see other people's DV costumes.
