I was considering buying but I had some questions first. So, I've been noticing that some people online were complaining about some features of the PSVR version when they were comparing it to the Oculus or PC versions. The only criticism I heard that actually made sense was that the PSVR version doesn't have locomotion, only teleporting. I had a thought about that. I've heard that on the options you can change whether you are playing the game standing or sitting. If you're sitting while playing, then it makes that teleporting would be the only way you move around. If you're standing while playing and you have the floor space then it makes that it should let you move by actually walking. Can anyone who plays the PSVR version confirm that this feature can be toggled on or off?
Hmmm... I wonder if what they mean is the difference between jumping to set locations vs smooth movement, regardless of where you're physically moving with the headset? When I played it on Oculus (and I've been meaning to do a review for a while now... need to get on that... absolutely amazing game...) I realized it was set to default on the "teleporting" mode. But it can also switch to "smooth" moving, using the same buttons. The reason they usually default to teleporting in many games is because the "smooth" mode tends to make people nauseous after a short while. Many games have some sort of warning about this. (Actually I've gotten seriously sick playing a few games, but Vader Immortal was not one.) I will say this: I'd much rather have the "smooth" move option in this game than the teleporting. There were a few scenes where walking allowed you to see more around edges. For instance, when you're on a vehicle or ship, or near any ledge (the beginning for example -- you can walk further to the edge of the cockpit window, which is floor-to-ceiling and gives an AMAZING view of the Mustafar landscape. I had started on teleport in that scene and didn't realize what I was missing until replaying that part later in the other mode and walking right up to the window). That doesn't really answer your question about toggling in the PS specifically. A quick search seems to come up with a few articles lamenting the teleport-only feature. Hmmm. My guess is that's all it has right now?
Considering that I play PSVR while sitting on my bed, (my apartment is sadly too small to play while standing up, it would be too dangerous) I'm not sure a walking mode (or smooth mode, if I'm accurately understanding what it is) would even be an option. I recently had my first experience in VR playing the VR Rogue One level from Battlefront. It was incredibly cool, and totally out of this world experience, but sadly that feeling only lasted for a couple minutes. After 30 mins I was getting really sick and almost hurled chunks all over my bed. Luckily, I took off the headset immediately when I realized what was starting to happen. It was fun enough to try again, but I'm a little apprehensive after that. Maybe if I move around more, while playing I'll be less motion sick? Since standing isn't an option maybe moving my head around more, might help?
The smooth mode is not walking, but I get the source of confusion. There are two ways to "move" in the Oculus version: 1. "Teleport" mode, where you press the "move forward" joystick thing (or whatever button you use to go forward) and it suddenly transports you to a different area. Like the old Myst games and their ripoffs. 2. "Smooth" mode where you press the "move forward" option and you glide forward, like a FPS. You can move and see more this way in Vader Immortal, from what I found. Teleport tends to limit where you go. You can actually "walk" physically in both modes. But it's not necessary.
