We've seen that Dooku was able to use Force Lightning. Even though Vader is physically restricted because of the suit, he should have the force capability to use this force ability, right? It might be an issue because of the electronics of the suit though. Do you think that Vader would be capable of learning this? Do you think he learned or tried to learn it?
I didn't imagine using this gif twice in a one week period on this board. This is what happens when electricity hits Darth Vader: If it comes from his hands, his feet, or somebody else, that suit is a giant conductor.
I always liked the idea that only The Emperor could use that power. When he unleashes it in ROTJ it was always a real "OMG, this guy's on a whole other level" moment for me. With Dooku now using it, I suspect Vader would've been able to as well, but for the suit.
I think he could naturally, yes but his state by the time he's in the suit is pretty hindered and he's not wholly biological anymore which is likely a huge factor.
Same here. It was cool seeing Dooku do it, but it was more special when only Palpatine had that ability. Even if you're a first time viewer seeing the films in order, Palpatine being the only one with lightning would instantly set him apart from the previous Sith Lords. If you wanted to demonstrate just how powerful Palpatine was in ROTS, the lightning alone would do wonders. But yes, I'm sure Vader has the capacity to do it, though it would probably emanate from his elbows since he doesn't have fingers.
I love the way The Emperor is underplayed in terms of displays of power. When the time comes to let loose it's so much more effective.
He would have. Dooku used it. Maul didn't, but he had either not gotten to that level yet when he fought Obi-wan and Qui-gon, or he had no desire to use it yet.
Agreed. Having Dooku use it just took the "wow" factor from The Emporer a bit. I don't think Vader would've needed it, his go-to darkside power is the force choke and come on, that's so much cooler. Yeah, force lightning is cool... but you can't fry someone half across the galaxy... Vader does that with the force choke in ESB and it's one of the best moments in the movie by far.
Dooku was an amateur at force lightning compared to Sidious, who could hit people with it so hard with it, you could see their skeletons.
I thought it was the other way round - she used it against Maul - but Maul fought his way through it and cut her in half?
Simple, he's getting fried so hard that his body is literally being cooked inside his armor. Though the effects are cool.
OOU, I don't think Lucas even came up with the idea until ROTJ, and then the Emperor was supposed to be the only one to use it. Until AOTC that is, when Lucas decided, WTH, let's have Dooku use it on Anakin and knock his ass into a corner. Then we have the EU, when all the angry emo kids were using it. In universe, I would assume what everyone else has said already, sort of hard to channel Force lightning through mechanical hands. And choking people was pretty damn effective anyway.
I don't much care whether he can use it or not, tbh. It is not as useful a power as it once was, now that it can be blocked by a saber fairly easily. I just hope that they don't give him "replacement lightning" (Kinetite) like in the old EU, that was pretty stupid. If you want to make Vader throw lightning around, let him throw lightning around! No fooling around. Not sure why electricity would screw with circuits more than with human nerves, by the way. Both electrical system, one just organic based but it's not a huge difference.
I have no problem with Dooku using force lightning in AOTC, and was good at using it, but at the same time I don't think he was at the same skill level that Palpy was at with it. This is why I don't mind Dooku having the ability to do so. By the way Force Lighting is one of my favorite force abilities, because nothing says awesome like having the ability to shoot lightning out of one's fingers and electrocute someone with it.
Hm, Dooku's force lightning was powerful enough to incapacitate Anakin with just one single blast. I don't think there is any basis in the movie to claim that it was weaker than Palpatine's, actually I could argue exactly the opposite!
