So what's the deal with this guy? Don't remember him? He's one of the background mourners at Padme's funeral; the Visual Dictionary identifies him as the Senator from planet Sarrish. He's also a huge pain in my posterior. See, I'm a HUGE Star Wars aliens fan, and this guy happens to be, to my recollection, the only character apart from Yoda in the original hexalogy (is that a word?) to still have his species be unidentified. Is there any way to ask somebody about this? I'd message Leland if I had a Twitter, but I don't. A lot of people assume his race's name is a demonym of "Sarrish," but it's never been confirmed. By the way, did you know his look is based on a scrapped concept for Palpatine? I really like it.
I've always thought he looked more Trek-like than GFFA-like I would say source wise is watching the movie, pause/freeze frame and see if he's there source: the audience with the ability to visually see the screen
The movie itself should be the source, and having checked the funeral sequence again, he's not there.
He doesn't have to be in the "final cut" to be part of the newcanon though. Thanks to the Visual Encyclopaedia, he's in: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Veedaaz_Awmetth He looks rather like a Dressellian: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dressellian but redder, and a little more "human-looking". Maybe his species is a splinter group of theirs, the way Neimoidians are derived from Duros?
Good examples of similar, but not identical, characters, lookswise: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Pons_Limbic http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Djas_Puhr
Going back to what Iron_lord said about Dressellians and the OP's conjecture on the possibility that Awmetth could be a scrapped concept design for Palpatine. Even as a kid I thought ol' Prune Face looked an awful lot like The Emperor. Now I'm wondering, could Bib Fortuna also be a possible early concept for Palpatine?
Oh, huh, I was actually wrong. There IS another bit character from the PT with no identified species. Ame Llom: Is there any way to, say, get in touch with Leland about these characters?
