Ventress Timeline

Could someone give me a semi-detailed summary of this characters history through the various medias(comics, cartoon series, novels). The clone Wars era is so confusing to me, everything seems so mashed together.

 

in very short:

she was a Padawan that her master had abandoned on a world. this drove her angry, so she turned to the dark side, perfected her fighting style and fought in an arena on rattatak until dooku saw her and chose her as worthy. since then she was a commander in the confederacy and fought on multiple battles, leading armies, or going solo against kenobi, skywalker and others, often accompanied by durge. several times they nearly got her killed, but she escaped death every time. at the naboo moon o'ma dhun she and durge tested bioweapons. but kenobi and skywalker interrupted them and met them there for the first time. later on ord cestus, obi wan met her again in political games to gain the favor of the government that produced deadly biodroids that work well against jedi. at Jabiim she managed to capture Kenobi for months. everybody thought him dead and she wanted to turn him to the dark side but failed when he escaped. later on anakin saw her ship at the battle of muunilist and followed her in a dogfight to Yavin IV, their they battled through the jungle and atop the temples of the sith until he took her sabers and threw her in a deep whole. earlier he had fought her on coruscant (in a comic). but always she survived though believed dead several times. and until then other seppie commanders continued the quest, but she wasn´t seen. obi wan believed she is still alive and searched for her.. a personal quest. and he found her alive but still recovering in a bacta tank. what happened next is still unknown, upcoming comics tell this.

SPOILER: she survives and is very alive after epi3, but not in the movie!

 

Actually, her master crash landed on Rattattakk, and was thought dead by the other jedi, and that is why they did not look for him (and why she says they abandonded her and her master). He was killed, and she took over Rattattakk, and fell into the dark side.

 

thank you very much. A few questions though, you say that Anakin fought her Before the Yavin battle, which comic does this take place in? Why does it seem that when Anakin fights her in the cartoon that he has never seen her before? And last, there is a short story in Clone Wars Adventures vol 3 that has Durge Ventress and Gen Grev fighting for control of Dookus droid armys. Greev wins and the other two end up in a bacta tank (seperate tanks I hope). Where in her timeline does this story take place?

Is it me, or is that a contradictory statement? How can her fate be "unknown", and yet we "know" that she survives post-Ep3?

 

Because no-one's read Obsession #5 yet.

 

...so how do we know she survives post-Ep3, then?

 

I think it's based on a comment from some VIP regarding Durge and Ventress: 'One will die, and one will be changed forever'. Durge is dead, so...

 

because the Visual Dictionary of Epi3 states her survival into post epi3 era. but obsession 5 is still not out yet.

Well, they´ve met, but there were always several months in between these meetings. and Anakin was busy during the clone wars. he definitely remembers her, but Obi Wan knew her far better than Anakin, having dealt with her more often. besides, the cartoon portrays events so that you don´t have to know the other EU sources to understand the cartoon. see third season where they picture LoE stuff. but in between the scenes and episodes much more did happen than shown. the cartoon is a medium that portrays EU in a certain way, and has to be looked upon from a certain point of view, interpreted to understand it and to make it fit with the other EU. see the Clone Wars and AOTC timeline in another topic, some pages down.

I assume that it happened in the middle of the Clone Wars. Grievous joined the separatists late in the war, around 1 year before ROTS ca., so the already established commanders durge and ventress fight him around that timeframe, I believe. 1 year up to 9 months pre-ROTS. in that timeframe. And about the bacta tanks, well some tentacle monster for assajj? lol... separate tanks aren't cheap

 

I believe Anakin fought her on OhMaDun.

 

thats one of naboos moons, like I stated, Obiwan and durge were there too

He did? If I recall correctly, Republic Commando had a scene where a ship flew off, which was Grievous' ship. Mind you, I'm not entirely certain wether it was Grievous ship as I'm not familiar with how it looks, but I do think that it was meant to imply that it is.

Of course, we can argue that it was merely his ship and that Grievous wasn't on board. It's more that I'm just curious when he did join the war.

According to Labyrinth of Evil, Grievous was with the war since at least Geonosis, and was responsible for the deaths of several Jedi and clones who disappeared in the catacombs. He didn't reveal himself to the Republic until Hypori, four months later.

 

The actual wording, IIRC, was "she remains at large..." leaving all kinds of open possibilities...

 

To me its no surprise that Ventress survives beyond the RotS timeline. At this point I guess its only a matter of time before we get a book about her trying to avoid The Purge.

 

A post-RotS Ventress is a character in a somewhat unique position; she hates the Jedi, because of the thing with her master, but has such a deep feud with Anakin that she would be unlikely tot be wilingg to assist Vader. I see the potential for an interesting story as she attempts to negotiate her loathing for the two, survive, and get what she wants.

I'm guessing what's to come also shatters her dreams of becoming the new Sith apprentice after Tyrannus defeats Sidious. There's a lot of dramatic potential here.

...why? She's on the Separatist's side.

 

Dooku wanted Yoda to come, but Ventress interfered and ruined his plans, along with raising Republic morale. She didn't do it on purpose.
