I've experienced problems with capturing video footage from my dv-camera to my editor program.
The program that went with the camera just captures the footage to one big movie, instead of making a clip out of every shot.

Simply puy: I need a software that can be used to capture video from my dv-camera to my computer, with each shot being a clip.

Which programm do you have now? I'm sure there are programmes to be found in the Sticky Threads.

    WinDV.

This is a quick, free program that works great. It's a standalone. Nothing to install.

To capture shots individually you'll have to manually start and stop the capture process each time. Trust me though it's much quicker to chop it up after the fact though unless you're logging and capturing with consistent timecode. :)

As stated, please see the programs listed in this thread - they'll get you going if you need different software than you have now. Good luck!

    WinDV sounds great!
Exactly what i was looking for, thanks man.

DVeditor, what are you talking about? There are lots of programmes that use automatic AVI splitting. These programmes use the timestamps on DV recordings - every video sequence is saved into a clip. It saves alot of time!

Yes, WinDV chops up every scene and creates an individual video file for each one. Very cool stuff.

Premiere Pro can also do capturing with scene detection. You might wanna take a look at the 30 day tryout.

Premiere Pro is worth the purchase, but for quick and dirty capturing for free, you cannot beat WinDV.

I knew about scene detection but I'd always been told you had to have consistent timecode for it to work. [face_thinking] I'll have to look that up...glad they helped you find the answer either way though jakobholmberg. ;)

Didn't know there was any camera out there with USB 2.0 support. Only firewire. I'm not sure if you even can do capturing over USB.

    Well, you can.

The only problem is that the only program i have found which can do it, is from sony and sucks.

You DO know that capturing via USB is going to kill your video quality anyway, right?

Is it possible to capture from tape with USB? I thought it only works with SD Cards and for video with very low resolution.

Well, since im really poor i own this really bad camera. It has a i.LINK-out port wich is kind of like firewire, but im not sure if my comp has a in port for i.LINK.

Is there some kind of connector i could use to connect the camera with i.LINK since it would make my video quality so much better.

i.LINK is firewire. All you need is a cable with the 4 pin i.LINK on one side and the 6 pin 1394 connecter on the other.
