virtual boy was a failed nintendo product. a horrible failure actually. so bad in fact that it made gamespy's 25 all time dumbest moments in gaming history. Read more. on a side note, the article is quite a read. some very interesting stuff. especially to those of us that have been gaming for a long time.

back on track, basically what the virtual boy was, was a portable "3d" simulator. it consisted of a headset/goggle aparatus and a controller. you looked through the goggles and that was the screen made up of red and well...red. it was a monochrome screen that utilized a stereoscopic effect to produce pseudo 3d imagery. it actually did work.

the system died a quick death. this was due partly to its $199 price tag and nintendo's own gameboy continued to dominate the portable market. plus the titles released for it were god awful.

i don't believe a star wars game was ever released for the system. at some point there might have been rumors of it but i dont think it materialized. even if it did i can assure you that it would not be something you would enjoy playing.

for more on the virtual boy disaster check out: http://www.virtual-boy.org/ that site has more info than you could ever want to know about this horrific device.

if you actually want to pick one up, i suggest checking on ebay. you should be able to pick one up for about 30 bucks or less.

That's the total amount of time that I've played Virtual Boy in my life.

I played one at Blockbuster, which was a Hastings back then, back when it came out. I thought it sucked... but hey look at it now. Everybody has one. Shows how much I know.

I first played it in high school (about 3 years ago) when I was at my best friend's house. It's surprisingly a lot of fun when you've had a few drinks.

The thing I love most about it though, was that when he was playing, I hit him with the worst fart grenade (farting in your hand, then holding it up to someone's face) of his life. You see, his face was up to the system, so he couldn't see anything I was doing. My hand was literally centimeters from his nose. Hahahahahah. Ah, the good 'ol days.
