    Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows of any colleges or online colleges that specializes in visual effects or graphic design? I've been looking around and have found a few, I'm just wonderin if anyone has attended any and would have some opinions. Thanks...

Might want to take a look at this thread - there were some good questions and answers on this subject there. :)

    Hope that helps!

Graphic design and visual effects are totally different fields.

Why not just study multimedia. You can probably pick that major at any university. You'd probably have to work with at least one major animation/ FX program. I took an animation class and a multimedia beginning class and studied programs like Director, Lightwave and Photoshop. I was in film school at the time.

I would like one in western Pennsylvania. But I would also be interested in schools in Ohio, New York, Maryland or Virginia.

Yes, I'm aware of that. Just askin cause thats the other field I might go into..

I also posted reviews of the film/3D school Full Sail and the Digital Arts and Visual Effects (DAVE) school, somewhere. Long story short, Full Sail sucks, DAVE is amazing.

Do you have a link to DAVE? I checked out Full Sail already...

    According to whom?
Depends on how you look at it, IMO. They're very important to each other.

If I hadn't started learning graphic design back in 10th grade, I may not have taken as much of an interest in the artistic side of film and I might be like... normal.

    Who wants that, eh?

You don't necessarily need a whole school for visual effects, T-Way. You just would need to research the programs within your given school. Smaller universities may have limited capabilities. At Western Mich., they have a pretty decent design program which I'm just getting started into as part of my film major.

It's actually too easy for me, but whatever. Do what must be done.
    =)

Dude, lol graphic design is like designing titles and posters. Visual Effects is totally different.

Let's put it this way: if T-Way is looking to do graphic design, he should go to art school or major in marketing. If he wants to do visual effects (particles -- fluids, fire, etc.), a background in physics and computer science will do him the most good. If he wants to do compositing, film school might be the best option.
