That's more or less my exact reaction. The Batsuper: Justice League v. Morning trailer, though, is a step in the right direction. I'm still not sold on it yet, but it's hitting the right beats and it's toned back the silly "Do you bleed?" grimness.

Surprised he was barely in the trailer.

Anybody know what that haunting music was in the trailer? It sounds familar, but my tired brain can't place.

    Trailer looks great BTW.

The trend of dark and haunting covers of pop songs in trailers continues!

I sincerely doubt that Captain Boomerang will be the focus of the film. That will most likely be Waller, Deadshot, Harley, and MAYBE some Joker. Also Jai was pretty charismatic in Jack Reacher, so maybe the key is to have him play bad guys.

Is it wrong to be a DC fan but to not be especially stoked about this movie? A bunch of D-list villains, plus a tattooed Joker in what appears to be a glorified cameo, and bubble-gum-popping-but-never-smiling Harley Quinn with rainbow hair... I'm just not feeling it. Batfleck looks terrific in his single scene, though.

It's not that I think he'll be the lead, but coming from just seeing Terminator Genesis, he manages to suck any life out of that film.

So, now Business Insider is getting in on the action: http://www.businessinsider.com/no-one-gets-superman-anymore-2015-7

But, also, to revisit a previous point... re: Suicide Squad. heels1785 this is going to be a little complain-y but I have a potential solution at the end.

So, the Comic-Con footage for Suicide Squad is out and it looks, generically, fantastic. Except it's clear that the DC brain-trust probably lied about that whole Joker marketing fiasco with the forehead-tattoos not being real because... well, it's in the footage (whether or not it says "Damaged" or even if it's 100% confirmed remains to be seen). But, really, why lie about something like that? Sure, the internet blew up but so what? If you want to make an artistic choice -- and they appear to be doing it with Superman and don't seem to be caring about the backlash, per se -- just come out and say so and own it.

Going back to Guardians of the Galaxy -- that was a hard sell. And Marvel went with a trailer premier during Jimmy Kimmel with some of the most irreverent stuff imaginable to be followed up with a poster two days later with the tagline "You're welcome" It just doesn't seem like DC has that coherent one-voice overseeing everything, like Marvel has with Kevin Feige, and it just leads them to piece-meal things and make basic mistakes. (Come back to this if Ant-Man flops, obviously)

However! I would like to propose a modest solution (besides exterminating the Jews, of course): while I'm on-record of not being a fan of the Affleck-as-Batman casting... put him in charge of the overall DCU.

He's both incredibly intelligent and incredibly talented at writing and directing, so could easily understand the larger, overall story picture that they might be shooting for. He has relationships with incredibly talented writers (Terrio, et al), actors (Clooney, Damon, et al), and producers (Pitt, Clooney, Heslow, et al) -- as well as having a wealth of Kevin Smith resources at his disposal, should he need more detailed comic information. He could easily reign in someone like Zack Snyder's worst directorial impulses and take those script polishing roles that Whedon filled in for from Captain America: The First Avenger all the way through The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

I think that's an entirely logical complaint, dp.

I was sure you'd be in here talking about how Jesse Eisenberg called SDCC "a genocide" today. What a moron that guy is.

I don't think Affleck would want to helm the DC Cinematic Universe. I'm sure he has other projects he like to work on outside the comic book genre.

I'm disappointed that there wasn't any news on casting Green Lantern from SDCC or any appearances from Ezra Miller or Jason Momoa. Perhaps at next year's SDCC.

I feel like Eisenberg made a really valid point while using a really foolish point of comparison.

Jesse Eisenberg says his comparison of Comic-Con to genocide was 'hyperbole'

Uh... I don't think anyone was operating under the assumption that you thought it was a literal genocide, Mr. Eisenberg. It's a poor word choice, I'd feel sympathy for his status as a public figure drawing more attention to his phrasing than others' if I didn't feel like his stardom derived wealth could provide more comfort.

Of course he wasn't literally saying the con was a genocide. It was an ungainly metaphor; some people took offense because internet.

Last night I watched The Death of Superman Lives, What Happened?, a documentary that I've been following since the director John Schnepp announced he was working on it. I found the film to be a delight, especially for those that like Hollywood behind the scenes stuff. The film provides Jon Peters' side of the Kevin Smith story about the three rules for the film, which were: (1) No Superman suit, (2) No Superman flying and (3) A giant spider. After seeing some of the concept art for the giant spider scene for Superman Lives, it appears the giant spider appeared in Man of Steel in the form of the World Engine.

The director Jon Schnepp Tweeted out this pic of Nic Cage in the near final version of the Superman suit. The previous photos of Nic Cage in the Superman suit were very preliminary and test shots were Cage was in mid blink.

Nic Cage doesn't look horrible as Superman, but isn't my ideal choice. And after seeing the documentary, I don't think I would have liked Tim Burton's version of the character.

Nic Cage is my ideal choice but not for the reasons you'd want an ideal Superman choice. NO NOT THE KRYPTONITE! AHHHH! AHHH IT'S IN MY EYES!

Well, that is an improvement in terms of costume design. As to the World Engine, it didn't look like a spider so that has that going for it compared to what he wanted. Technically, a giant robotic spider isn't a bad idea, but it really wouldn't be a challenge for Superman. It's the kind of thing that can work in a comic or an animated version of Superman, but seems a bit arbitrary in a live action film.

The suit is very colorful, I'll give it that much. And it's fun to see the long-haired 90s Supes in live action. But Cage's sallow, horsey face... [face_sick]
